Desktop will not conntect to internet, but it says connected. My laptop works with the wireless network connection just fine, however, we cannot get the desktop to work. any suggestions? i have been on...

You didn't mention if your desktop is connected hardwired or wireless. Let's assume your desktop is connected hardwired via ethernet cable and your PC is saying that your are connected, then you need to check 2 things. First, TCP/IP settings, go to the network connections page of your PC and look for Local Area Connection. You need to right click on Local Area Connection and click on Properties. Then on the next page, look for Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) or Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) for Win Vista and Win 7 OS. You need to click on it to highlight it then click on Properties. On the next page, make sure that "Obtain an IP address automatically" and Obtain DNS Server address automatically" are both selected. Sorry if cannot give you a detailed walkthrough because you didn't mention the Operating System of your PC. Second, check Proxy Settings, open up Internet Explorer and click on Tools on the upper portion then click on Internet Options. On Internet Options page, click on the Connections Tab then click on the button for LAN settings. On the next page, make sure that the "Use Proxy Server for your LAN" is unchecked.

Have a Belkin N150 router. Status constantly says acquiring network address. If you go to the support part it says invalid ip address.

Make sure your wireless card is set to acquire the IP address automatically. You can do this by going into:
  1. Go to "Start Menu >> Control Panel >> Network Connections"
  2. Right-Click on "Wireless Network Connection"
  3. Click on "Properties"
  4. Double-Click "Internet Protocol" which you should be able to see in the small list in the box
  5. Now you will be able to see an option to "Obtain IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". make sure that both of these options are selected.
If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, the flow is the same, but certain options are labeled differently:
  1. Go to "Start Menu >> Control Panel >> Network and Sharing Center"
  2. Click on "Manage Network Connections", which is located on the left hand side of the window.
  3. Right-Click on "Wireless Network Connection"
  4. Click on "Properties"
  5. Double-Click "Internet Protocol Version 4" which you should be able to see in the small list in the box
  6. Now you will be able to see an option to "Obtain IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". make sure that both of these options are selected.
  7. Repeat 'STEP 4 and 5', but this time select "Internet Protocol Version 6".
you can check the IP address of the connection by checking ipconfig:
  1. Click on "Start >> Run" or "Start >> Start Search bar"
  2. type in "cmd" and then press "Enter"
  3. In the black box that appears on screen, type in "ipconfig" and hit "Enter"
  4. This will give you a long list of information about your connection. There should be a small heading called "Wireless LAN Adapter Wireless Network Connection" or "Ethernet Adapter Wireless Network Connection".
  5. This will have an "IP Address" or and "IPv4 Address". If the IP Address starts with 192.168., then it means it should be functioning properly. If it gives you a 169.254. address, it means the laptop is likely faulty.
Hope this helps

3.This will bring you to your network connections window
4.If using XP: Double click on wireless connection and hit the support tab. Ensure it is assigned by DHCP and the ip address should start with 192.
5. If Vista Or Windows 7 Right click on wireless conenction and hit properties. Uncheck version Internet Protocol Version 6
6. Click and Highlight internet protocol Version 4 and hit properties
7. ensure that it shows obtain ip address and obtain a dns server automatically
8.After go to Command Prompt (Win XP) Start/Run/Type CMD
Windows7/Vista:Start Start/All Programs/Accessories/Right click on command prompt and hit run as administrator then hit continue type in these commands.
1.netsh int ip reset reset.log
2.netsh int ip delete arpcache
3.netsh winsock reset

I cant log on to the internet on my other computer it tells me minimal or no connection

Please ensure that your security settings are correct. Also make sure you have entered the correct password in your security enabled network (sounds like you are using a wireless connection). If you are behind a firewall or proxy server ensure that the internet settings are correct. If your are using IE go to tools - internet options- connections- LAN settings to setup your proxy if you are using Firefox go to tools - options - advanced - networks - settings tab to configure your proxy. The steps are almost identical for all browsers.

Xbox live via cricket wireless

I can connect to XBox Live through this fashion on my Cricket Modem:

Now, I have had problems with this fix running Windows 7 (still can't get it to work), but I didn't have any struggles with XP or Vista.

You need to go into Manage Network Connections, right click on your Cricket Modem, and select Properties.

Click the Share Tab, and click it so it allows other users to connect through that network connection. Now, go to the Networking tab under Properties and right click on the Internet Protocol Version 6 and make sure it is automatically assigning both DNS and the 6 IP, Apply.

Next do the same with the TCP/IPV4 section under Networking, make sure everthing is automaticaly assigning.

Click on the Router and make sure that it is automatically assigning the Internet Protocol 4 and 6. Now click diagnos, and it should reset the router, automatically apply the correct settings, and bam. You SHOULD be able to connect with XBox Live.

I have no problems with this with Vista and XP, as I stated before. But now my main computer is running the 7 RC and I can't figure the darn thing out yet. So I figured out a cute solution. I took my Dell Mini, connected the Cricket Modem to it, and ran an ethernet cord from the XBox to the Mini.

Pretty much same solution after that, only instead of selecting your router, you select the LAN connection that is not your Cricket. For me itassigns the XBox as LAN and the Cricket as LAN2.

Let's see how it goes. :)

Lan card toshiba wireless no working

Check this Tip for an overview
  1. Connect your PC to your router using LAN Cable: be sure you can browse internet
  2. If you cannot browse check router config with your ISP
  3. Connect to your router using IP address you find for gateway in Network status
  4. Configure your router wireless section to match with your PC card
  5. Start removing security, broadcast radio signal, create a simple SSID as network name
  6. Check if router network is seen by your PC card (when you disconnect the LAN cable and activate the wireless card)
  7. If connection is established ( near the router) try different location
  8. Reconnect cable and reconfig adding security protocol (WPA-PSK recommended) use parameters compatible with your lan card

Wireless can not communicate with my comp

I'm assuming you are using windows XP or similar. You can check your tcp/ip protocols and local pc adaptor by 'pinging'. open the command prompt - 'start', 'all programs', 'accessories', 'command prompt'. Then type 'ping 127.0.0.1' without quotes. If there is 'no loss' of data, your pc is basically sound, as are the protocols.

Try reaching your router by typing 192.168.2.1 (or look on bottom of router or documentation for IP address). It may ask for user name and password which should be with documentation. You need to be able to reach your router before you can use the net.

If using a cable, check out your LAN by going to 'control panel', 'network connections', then find the LAN icon. Right click and left click on 'properties'. under the 'general' tab scroll to ' internet protocol tcp/ip'. double click on this. under the general tab make sure ip address and dns is obtained automatically.

If you're using the wireless capability (ie not network cable) right click on the wireless connection to 'view available networks'. try to connect to one. You may need a WEP/WPA etc password. You could try connecting a network cable from pc to router to see if it's a wireless problem or not.

In control panel look at 'internet options' and 'connections' tab. make sure it's set to use the right connection (eg mine just uses the LAN).

sorry if this is a bit muddled but there are many possibilities. Any more info on your setup would be helpful.

WINDOWS VISTA - CAN'T SET UP LAN: SOFTWARE NOT COMPATIBLE?

I don't see Vista listed in the SBG Manual, but they do list several windowS OS versions. Looking at Windows 2000 for an example, you basically need to go into the control panel and make sure TCP/IP is configured correctly.

If Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is in the list of components, TCP/IP is installed. You can skip to step 10.
If Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is not in the list, click Install. The Select Network Component Type window is
displayed:

In both cases, the box next to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) needs to be selected.

If you need the steps in selecting the network component type let me know and I'll try to post those steps also.
