Question about GE Freezer  14.8 Cu. Ft. Manual Defrost Chest Freezer

I just turned on my freezer that has been unplugged for a few years and it was on for five hours, working great. It then just quit. There is no humming sounds but the light is on inside. Any ideas? Thank you!

Did it reach the desired temperature before it Quit. If so then it does not need to run until the temperture drops several degrees below setting.

FREEZER quits working and if you unplug it and plug it back in will start working and work for weeks and may quit again.

If it has the control board on the door, they have been known to do that, it pressed/snapped into the door. If not and it has a manual ,standard knob on the inside, thermostat , slowly turn it back and forth to hear the clicking of the control which should start and stop the operation. If this is a self defrosting freezer and has the thermostat it also has a defrost timer that like a alarm clock shuts the unit on and off for 20 min intervals every 6 to 8 hours, this part has a little motor on it that overheats. You will be able to physically see oil comming out of it, or noisy ticking/ humming and very hot to the touch. Replace these parts and it should repair it. Good luck

I have a kenmore chest freezer model 19502/19702. I had it unpluged for 5 months. When I plugede it back in the power light flickers. Tryed other outlet. Other then that it seems to be working

We purchased this same Kenmore chest freezer model 19502/19702 in 2010. In less than 2 years the compressor quit. If you do a search on this model you will see dozens of complaints. Don't waste your time or money on this freezer.

WHEN YOU PLUG IT IN IT RUNS BRIEFLY AND SHUTS OFF

The easiest thing to try is to completely defrost the freezer by turning it off for at least 24 hours. Often, the coils freeze, and then you cannot get any cold air to freeze your food.

You could also download a manual and electrical schematic from the manufacturer's web site. Use a voltmeter to trace the power and find the problem.

Does the compressor motor still run? Can you hear the fan motor run while the compressor is running? Normally, it is not worth recharging the freon in a freezer. If the freon leaked out (not likely), then you need to repair the leak first. It ends up costing the same as getting a new freezer.

Lights are on but compressor won't work. Less than 2 years old.No display on temp control.

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back onand listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries tostart.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overloadrelay.

If the relay is ok the problem is the compressor which normally has a five year warranty.

My Maytag side by side fridge freezer is leaking at the bottom and ice is collecting at the bottom of the freezer. I cannot find any model number but think it's about 6 years old

The drain is clogged behind the wall in the freezer you can do one of three things take the back wall inside the freezer off and thaw the drain in the bottom and clear it out,Pay someone else to do this,or you can mover your food for a day unplug the unit open the freezer door and leave it off for 24 hours allowing the ice to clear from the drain, seems to happen about every five or six years with Maytags..

I had the same problem with an upright and so I bought a piercing valve and charged the compressor with 134R and has been working great since.

My freezer is not cold enough to keep food frozen...

the "e" usually means it has an error. it could be a bad temperature thermistor or a bad control board. the most likely is the board.
i hope you are less then 1 year old as the board can be quite pricey, about 150 bucks.
you could try to unplug the unit for a few minutes and then plug back in and see if the code goes away and returns to the cooling mode.

Freezer/Refrigerator tempurature swinging wildly

The compressor is overheating and not starting. Could be just the start relay. If this happens again try unplugging it for about an hour then it should work for a while. Heat between doors is normal this is an electric heater designed to keep the doors from sweating. You just noticed it because the refrigerator wasn't cold.

Freezer Problem

If it started to cool again the compressor was running. Check the condenser and make sure it is clean. Provide as much air movement through the garage as possible . 100 degrees is a high temperature to be operating a refrigerator in.
