first check to be sure you have a dvd writer and not a cd writer-dvd rom combo .., cause in this case it is obvious why its not burning dvd-es.. Another thing take a look and see if you have a dvd burner into your operation system ..Usually windows 7 have a dvd burner and it burns them without any program to assist it .. but if it is defective or you can not operate it .. just download and install a dvd burner .. like Nero .. and try again .. In the last case try to reinstall the operation system if you have a hunch that it may be something wrong with it .. and if is still not working change the optical unit and will work
male sure the laptop has teh burn dvd capability cause it can be just a cd writer and dvd rom ..and in this case it is explainable why its giving the error .. If you are sure you have a dvd writer ...than be sure you select it in the options of the burning software you use.. and 3rd ... if your writer is corrupted ..try to go to device manager ..(click right on compuer select properties..and device manager..) in there look for dvd writer...click right on it ..and select update driver...If the disk is not present click right on computer ..and select scan for hardware changes...If the writer is deactivated this will bring it back ..Than update its driver and be sure it's not in yellow cause this means the driver is not the correct one .. If no action will correct this ..and still makes the same ..than I suggest to reinstall the operation system ..and this way you will eliminate the possibility that a bug corrupted it ...and in case it still not working you have to consider replacing it ..but not before trying a operation system reinstall ..cause there are viruses that attack the disk drive's driver ..and this is the only fix .
You just need to simply plug the one end (USB Type B) of the USB cable to the external DVD writer then plug the other end (USB Type A) to your notebook. Then, let your Operating System to automatically install the driver for your DVD writer. Let me know if this works.
Chances are either your drive has gone bad, or you have a bad Malware on your system. Go to http://www.malwarebytes.org and get the free version. Install it, and update it, then run it. If it finds stuff, do what the prompts tell you to do, and that should fix the problem. If not, then get another dvd drive. You shouldn't need special drivers beyond what MS Windows has to make your drive work.
must be virus' job. insert ur operating system cd/dvd in the cd/dvd rom and restart ur pc. press a key to boot from cd when asked. then repair os using recovery console. if the problem still persist then re install windows
You would be able to boot from the external drive but you will not be able to run an operating system from it. It would allow you to install another operating system if that is what you mean? If i understand you correctly though, you would like to say perhaps, have windows xp on your laptop and maybe run windows vista on your external? Maybe get to choose which one to run. This is not possible. Sorry. I hope this helps!
