How can my dishwasher flood my kitchen? I thought there was a shutoff valve by code that would prevent this if a drain became clogged?

Codes vary be location. This could also be caused by a leaking water supply line.

Dishwasher floods kitchen

I've got the same problem. They have a pump that sumps out the dirty dishwater and a float that tells them the water level. Food and calcium deposits make things bind up. There is rubber seals on the door that need to be just right. "Dishwasher floods kitchen" doesn't really help much. I knew my pump was clogged or bad because it wouldn't drain. I haven't fixed mine. We have an Amana and it never did a good job cleaning anyway.

My dishwasher is not draining off the water properly. It has flooded the kitchen once already. I can here the pump running, but it is a bit noisy. The bottom of the dishwasher is still full of water after...

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

Dishwasher not draining completely problem usually occurs due to clogged/blocked drain hose or the drain pump not working. First try to clean the drain hose and drain pump filter for any clogs, then check drain pump operation. If the problem returns after cleaning then it is the drain pump that needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

DISHWASHER RUNS BUT I HAVE NO WATER INSIDE.

There are two possible options to solve this.
1. Check clogged filters on water ingress pipe. You should have two, one on either end if using factory pipe.
2. Alternatively the water solenoid valve is faulty and needs replacement. Check signal on solenoid valve and try testing the solenoid valve on its own by applying a voltage at its terminals to see whether it opens before you replace it.

My water will not dain in my diswasher and then leaks on to the floor. Is there a clog oris it something else

Hi

If your dishwasher leaks, check these:

Main tub seal Note… If the main motor of your dishwasher is mounted vertically, beneath the center bottom of the dishwasher, the following instructions probably apply to you. But if your motor is mounted horizontally, the pump isn't serviceable--you need to replace the entire pump and motor assembly.

The main tub seal is beneath the drain impeller. It prevents the water in the dishwasher from leaking out near the shaft of the motor. To get to the seal, which is inside the dishwasher, remove the:

  • Lower rack

  • Spray arm

  • Spray arm support

  • Wash/drain impellers

Then pry the seal out of its housing and replace it.

Door gasket or seal Over time, door gaskets and seals harden and lose their ability to seal properly. You can't repair the seals. You need to replace them if they've begun to leak.

Water-inlet valve The water-inlet valve, itself, seldom leaks. But, the water-supply line from the house and the rubber tube leading from the valve to the inside of the dishwasher may leak. Tighten or repair/replace these as necessary.

The water-inlet valve could mechanically stick open. When that happens, the water continues to flow into the dishwasher, which then floods your kitchen. Turn off the water supply to the dishwasher, and replace the valve.

Hoses Behind the lower access panel on your dishwasher are several rubber or plastic hoses. If the leak appears at a connection, try a new clamp. If that doesn't work, replace the hose.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Dishwasher does not drain, instead drains through overflow valve in sink. No apparent clog seen.

Usually the sink connection is not an overflow, it is the main drain from the dishwasher. It is more likely your s-bend is blocked under the sink- try putting a bucket under it and unscrewing the u-shaped piece and cleaning out (remember don't wash it in that sink while the pipe is off)

Fixerfailure, is the knock-out plug still inside if the garbage disposal inlet?

Stick a screwdriver in there to make sure.

spazmo1969, could be the rubber flapper is broken off in the pump discharge outlet.

Dishwasher flooding

When you say that you tried other solutions.. it's hard to know which you've tried and which you haven't so I will suggest some basics first.. ( if you've tried them, then disregard)...
Have you checked or addressed the following:
  1. Cleaned the drain filter
  2. Checked the drain hose for crimps or restrictions
  3. Sure the drain system ( such as your feed thru the garbage disposal isn't clogged or restricting flow)
  4. Checked your water pump for an obstruction or you can determinbe if it is actually pumping
  5. The feed and returm hose ..to anf from the pump are not clogged, pinched or restricting flow.
These are the basics that you should have examined or confirmed aren't causing the problems you are seeing. One other as well.. are you sure your water inlet valve is completely shutting water from leaking in and over-filling the system? Check these items and you should be able to diagnose where the problem is.. Hope this helps you,

Kenmore Ultra Wash III Dishwasher will not drain properly

From the sound of things, your dishwasher drains faster than your sink drain ( via the garbage disposal) can drain it off.. You may have a problem with the way your sink drain/trap is vented and there is too much back pressure to drain down quickly.. When you run water from your sink, does it take a long time to drain down or if you fill your sink up and drain it, does it drain slowly ? That may be your problem.. Hope that helps.

SA 660 SMEG dishwasher constantly filling....

this can be water draining from your sink into the dishwasher via the drain pipe, assuming the drain pipe goes to a spigot on the sink trap.
take the drain hose up as high as possible in a swan neck to prevent this.
