DC14 Animal Vacuum Smells Like Mildew When On

I Washed the Purple Canister (Have 2 Labs & There was a Lot of Dirt); Left It Disassembled & Open for a Week Before Using Again. When I Did Use it Again, It Made My Whole House Smell Like Mildew!!!
I Don't Know What to Do & I Really Don't Want to Get Another Vacuum Since I Spent So Much on This One!

Loss of suction when pulling out the hose and then the hose sucks up tight. . . cleaned the filter under the canister. not sure how to do anything else. . .

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you've had difficulty with your DC14 Animal. It sounds as if there may be a blockage in the hose, wand or U-bend of your machine. To check for this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

http://content.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=657&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

Please note, the filter underneath the clear bin does not need maintainance - so if you've washed this, you may want to email us at askdysonUS@dyson.com for further assistance as the filter may have been damaged.

Best wishes,

Jack

Our vacuum smells of dog when in use. We have clean out all the filters but it still smells horrible. Any suggestions?

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14 Animal. You may want to take a look at the page linked below to make sure you've washed the filter correctly - this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without detergent, and allow up to 12 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1324&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

You can also wash the clear bin when separated from the cyclone pack - however, the cyclone pack must never be washed or submerged in water. Make sure the clear bin is totally dry before reassembling the cyclone assembly.

If you need any further help or advice about using or maintaining your Dyson cleaner, please call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US) - one of our experts will be happy to provide the assistance you need.

Kind regards,

Jack

Can the canister be washed on a Dyson dc 14? I mean the part with the cyclone parts,

the removable part that has the dirt in it can be washed but do not wash the parts that it covers. You could wipe the piece that it covers but do not get water up inside of it whatever you do. You will almost surely void the warranty if it has water damage and you needed to take it in for something. good luck
P.S. you can also wash the foam filter but do not wash the hepa filter.

I have a Dyson Animal vaccuum sweeper that's about 2 1/2 years old. It has quit sucking. Kathy

do you have suction at the attachments? make sure the canister and dirt separater is cleaned and also check both of the filters. replace if necessary. Could also be that your belts are stretched and slipping on the brushroll thus not getting any aggitation, the appearance of no suction

My dyson smells terrible while it's on

Clean the filters and check to make sure you don't have something fowl stuck in any inlets. Spray Lysol into the hose while the unit is on and see if it relieves the smell. If it is mildew or a dander smell you have to clean the filters and then use the Lysol.

The purple cylinder on my Dyson 14 Animal vacuum smells terrible

Make sure that the filter is completely dry before you reinsert it. If not, it will mildew, emitting a horrible smell. When you clean your cylinder, you must wait for at least three to four days to make sure that it is completely dry.

Dc 14 animal emits a terrible smell after about ten minutes of us

You can take a Febreze sheet and put it into the canister/dirt bin where the dirt spins around. It'll spin around whilst you vacuum your house and it'll spread the fragrance through the vacuum and hopefully get rid of the smell for you.

You can also blow out the cyclone with an air compressor or a leaf blower by opening the bin door on the bottom of the dirt bin and blowing up the cyclone in the middle - perhaps there is something lodged up there that is causing the foul odor.

Dyson blowing top of cyclone air release valve.

It sounds like the same problem I was having. I had loss of suction through he hose then all of the air was coming out through the vent/valve on top of canister. If you are looking at your dyson from the back, look at the bottom. You will see a purple plastic tab on the bottom left. That allows you to remove the plastic u-shaped hose that goes from the hose to the bottom of the dyson. I just removed that and found it was completley blocked. I removed it and the dyson has no loss of suction orair through top valve/vent. I hope this helps. I never post but i'm just excited that I got my dyson working perfectly again.
