Telkom Mega 100WR Router which doesn't show DSL light

This router doesn't appear to find a DSL connection on my line, but my old usb modem works fine. The Telkom modem worked fine until a few days ago.Modem definately not faulty as it works fine on somebody else's line.Today i was advised by a Telkom technician to change the modulation on my router to ADSL_ANSI_T1.413 leaving all the other options that were ticked, now unticked and now the modem works again.Does leaving the other options unticked affect your DSL performance and does it mean that there is still a problem with the line @ the exchange ?

SOURCE: I have an ADSL D-Link modem (DSL-300G)that works

First: Connect your computer directly to the ADSL modem. It has an Ethernet port.
If you can't get to the Internet while your computer is connected directly to the modem, then ytour router never will either. Call ISP if you can't connect to the Internet when directly conencted to the modem.
Next: Check your router wires again, The modem must be connected to the "special" port on the router. Look at the router. There is one port separated from the rest. Connect the modem to that port. Conenct to the Internet.
Still no Internet?
Reset your router by pushing a stylus (straightened-out paperclip) into the reset "hole" on the router (with router powered ON).
Push & hold for 30 seconds or until the lights do their reset dance. Connect to the INternet.

SOURCE: how to forward port on telkom mega 100wr router

You have two options:
1. You can open port using router's web interface. Check what ports used your software, what protocol TCP/UDP/BOTH then go to web interface's virtual server and add new user's rule. Then you have to save and reboot router. Every time your PC IP changed (static IP recommended) or program you using changed port number you have to do web interface operation again.
2. Download and install Router Commander (fully compatible with your router) and that's all. The software will forward ports automatically

SOURCE: I installed my D-Link DI-784

It is possible that a neighbor purchased a wireless access point that it on the same channel and they are competing. Change your wireless channel. You could also try a hard reset. Instructions at D-Link's website. Good luck!

Conect the router?

1. Unplug your DSL modem’s power supply.

Find the cable connecting your modem and computer.
Unplug it from the modem and plug it into the gray port
on the Belkin Router.

If you are replacing an existing router, find the cable
connecting the computer and old router. Disconnect it from
the old router and plug it into the gray port on the new router.

2. Connect the new cable (provided in the box) to the yellow
port on the Router.

Plug the other end into the modem.

3. Plug in your modem’s power supply. Wait 60 seconds for the
modem to start up.

Plug the Router’s power supply into a wall outlet, and the
other end into the black port on the Belkin Router.

As the Router wakes up, lights will come on; recheck your
connections if the “power” and one of the “wired” lights
are not lit up in green after 20 seconds.

4. Locate the CD in this guide and insert it into your computer.
The Setup Assistant should appear automatically.
If it doesn’t, open the CD in My Computer and double-click on the
“Setup Assistant” icon.It will guide you through he rest of the setup.

Connecting a wireless router to Tiscalli broadband connection

  1. USB modem is connecting a PC USB port with a DSL phone line: CANNOT be connected to a ROUTER LAN (ethernet NOT USB port).
  2. Wireless ROUTER is NOT a modem and it CANNOT connect the Internet (or WAN) LAN port to any "phone line"
  3. Connect the Router Internet (WAN) port to Modem (you need a LAN MODEM = a modem with a LAN/ETHERNET port)
  4. Be sure your internet is running before strting ROUTER configuration with Router Company CD
