Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

The Protector System does not seem to work any loner

The indicator lights in both the sending and receiving eyes are glowing properly(amber for the sending eye and green for the receiving light). But when an obstacle is is placed in the path of its electronic beam the door does not stop and reverse and the overhead light does not come on. Both sensors seem to be aligned properly and I have cleaned the sensors in case they were dirty. It has been working fine for several years but suddenly stopped working last. week.

How do you align the safety sensors for a lifmaster garage door

The indicator lights in both sending and receiving eyes with glow steady if wiring and alignment are correct.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Liftmaster-safety-reversing-system.pdf
Connect the wires together on safety sensor receiver (with green indicator light), so it by-passes safety system.
The safety system consists of sender with amber light, and receiver with green indicator. Receiver must receive light in order to keep switch circuit closed. If receiver receives no light from sender, then switch opens, and garage door will not function.
Connect both wires on receiver will simulate the closed switch, as if receiver is receiving beam of light.
You can order replacement sensors from amazon

Garage door won't close with remote and I have to hold the pad to make it go down, however it opens just fine.

Your safety reversing sensors must be connected and aligned correctly before the garage door opener will close. An obstruction in the path of the sensor will also cause your door to not close.

This sensor is an electronic beam, which is sent between two sending and receiving "eyes". These eyes face each other and are located just inside your garage door. They may need to be adjusted so the beam from the sending eye is properly detected by the receiving eye. Once the receiving eye "sees" the beam from the sending eye, a green indicator light will glow on the top of the eye. Tweak them a bit. If both lights do not come on you have bad sensors.

When you push either the remote or the switch at the door, the garage door will go down almost to the bottom and then come back up and the light will blink several times. This does not happen all the time....

GDO - Do I need a new Logic Board or is it something simpler?

No, the problem is the photoelectric eyes. Check that they are properly aligned.

Craftsman GDO reverses itself when the door reaches the eyes

The only thing that will cause the main light to blink 10 times is a sensor problem. Sometimes the sensors will be misaligned just enough to turn the light on but will not work properly. If you look really close (on your knees) you can see the receiving sensor blinking ever so slightly. Tweak the sensors until the light glows constant.

Programing limits on a Grifco MK3 Garage door Operator

It has the "Protector System" (safety sensors). chec the sensor indicator light on the receivinng eye the green light had a slight flicker.cleaned both the sending eye and receiving eye lens of dust and cob webs, then realigned the receiving sensor for a steady green indicator light. then check the door function it now works fine.over time, temperature, and viberation the sensors become dirty and get out of alignment, as no one had tampered with the sensor alignment prior to this. Hope this works for you.

Sensors dont work .

Is that a problem? The way I read my User Manual the sending eye glows orange (amber?) and the receiving eye glows green.
