Re: cooling fan came off the chip

It sounds like your saying the Connector on the motherboard came off.and your fan is not running. If this is the case, it is best to buy another Motherboard. You can get parts on Ebay. Also fans assembly.

If you have trouble you can send your PS2 to a Repair shop. Click on "Repair Directory" at the bottom of this screen. then choose "Video Game Consoles". Then you pick a Good Repair shop. My shop is listed, but I cannot divulge the name in this forum. Cost will be $25 plus shipping. Shipping is usually $8.95 to the USA

My PSP 1003 is making weird noises and not showing my game

This is a sign that the ps3 has become a heat issue.First power down the ps3.Then get a can of compressed air, sold at staples or any pc repair shop.
Blow out all dust and dirt from ps3.Pay close attention to cooling fans.It may be a good idea to remove cover and clean out internal fans and motherboard.
Once done wipe ps3 clean and reinstall it in a well vented area.
Try ps3 again.
If you still have no luck then the graphics chip may be fried. But check all your cables first.

I modified my xbox to get rid of the RROD(i replaced the x clamp with regular machine screws). The ring went away but now the screen freezes with a checker pattern and becomes unresponsive within a minute...

You may have tightened the screws to much. I had this happen to a RROD repair I performed. Worse case sinario is the gpu got fried. Did you clean the chips good and replace the thermal paste? A little trick I found is to take small pieces of a bank card/discount card and super glue them to the four corners of the chips. both cpu and gpu. when you remove the xclamps clean the chips until the have a mirror like finish. I used rubbing alcohol. Clean the heat syncs as well. Glue the plastic pieces to the corners of the chips. replace the syncs but dont tighten them all the way. While the console is disassembled plug in the av cable (to prevent all four red lights from coming on) plug in the power cord. Make sure the cooling fan is disconnected. Turn on the console. at this point you may still see the 3 red lights. This is o.k. Leave the console on for a while until the 3 red lights turn into 2 red lights. This means the console is overheating. Let it "cook" for 2 min. then tighten the screws. The overheat is needed to make the solder on the chips become plyable and alow the chips to be reset. you may still have a loose connection on the gpu causing the checkers.

Got the 2 red lights on the left...flashing...opened and cleand out the machine...applied new compound after cleaning the chips shine...setup back and connect still getting 2 red lights flashing...when...

this is an other heating error. usually caused by one of the RAM chips.
you will need to reflow the ram chip to fix this error.
This guy here has a 6part video guide on reflowing the xbox360, during reflowing the complete motherboard he covers the ram chips:

2 red light error heatsinks wont heat up

2 red flashing lights means your console overheated you just needed to let it cool and or check the fans and other cooling components, and by the sounds of it not heating up you have cooked the chips by trying to fix it so you console is basically a paper weight now, sorry

Has 3 flashing red light's so put x clamp kit in it and did't work changed the DVD, AV Cable and checked the 203 W power supply. and did't fix so what do I check now? Thanks Charley

the xbox x clamp fix can be very touchy sometimes. have you used new thermal paste? try putting the fan over the top of the cpu chip after doing the x clamp fix again and letting it "bake" for about 10-15 mins the thermal paste hardens slightly and it should fix it let it cool completely before starting it up

My system turns on but no video only audio whats going on i even bought new av cables still same

Hi its about to go into RROD quick fix to tell if it is sometimes this works

Turn it around see the fan holes, with it turned off stick two small screwdrivers thru the holes to stop them spinning, turn it on watch the lights on the front, soon it will blink 2 red lights let it go for about 10 minutes then turn it off at the wall, take out screwdrivers, wait for about an hour to cool by itself, dont help it Turn it on at the wall and 90% of the time it will come alive again if not do it a second time If this helps give us a tick so to help others This is temporary untill you get it fixed by a professional to fix them properly and if its under warrantee MS is the best way to go otherwise you have to heat it with infared heat or a rework station clamping is basterdation in my opinion I use the rework station and about 95% are still going Good Luck

When i start up the xbox it has no video, only sound.

Its possible for you to fix the problem your self.
how ever the fix may not last long .

Ok hear we go

find a video on how to strip the box down to the P.C. board.
pull the board out of the chaise by the small heat sink only
do not disturb the big heat sink at all or you will break the
seal an get 2 reds ( over heating)

Now that you have the main board in your hand
flip it over a carefully very carefully pry off the x clamp
bracket holding down the small heat sink for the G.P.U.

remove the heat sink from the board ,take out the four
studs under the heat sink . clean the gray heat sink off
the top of the two chips with rubbing alcahole ,do the
same with the heat sink then apply some heat sink compound
to the chips place the heat sink back on the chip
get four 10-32 by 3/8 long and EVENLY screw down
the heat sink Not too tightly ( snug not tight) .

Put the unit back together ,leave out the white fan
shroud plug everything back in and leave the fan
hanging out .

Now plug in the power and a/v cable place and hold
the fan over the Large heat sink for C.P.U. and turn on
the power .I should take 4-5 min till the fan gets up
to full then another 3-5 min to over heat Two red light
be ready to unplug the second this happens .
let it cool down for about 15-20 min and you should
have restored your video feed. I cant say how
long it will last .

if you have any questions feel free to email me

Take some heat sink compound
that you can buy from raido shack

now that that you have the main P.C. board in your hand.

The yellow flashing dot of death does normally mean that your PS3 is Dead but there is a way to fix it

My PS3 would not start and the indication light just flashed between yellow and red
Your options are: New PS3 £250, PS3 from Sony second hand £150 or £5 fix
1. Undo the screw below the warranty sticker in bottom of PS3
2. Slide the lid of
3. Remove all bolts
4. Remove all main components until the mother board is free from the unit
5. Remove the thermal gel on the back of the 2 main chips to the heat sinks
6. Clean any excess dust by blowing away do not use and dusters or leky equipment
7. Level up the m board and heat over all the board with a heat gun, needs to be really hot to melt the solder but not damage the board or components
8. Allow to cool and turn over repeat the above
9. Buy some thermal gel online and replace the gel removed of the chips using a credit card
10. Once cool after 15 to 20 mins replace all the components and PS3 Lid
11. Run a fan test on your ps3 (turn of at the back hold down the eject disk button and turn back on keeping the eject disc button held down until fan starts)
12. Turn you ps3 on and bam your back on COD or FIFA (add wadhapa)
Hope this is of some help but this is only recommended if your PS3 is out of warranty and you are not sending it back for a Second hand Sony one

360 error 74 message

The cause of E-74 with one red light Error might be overheating of your console and for avoiding such error in future you need to put your machine at an open space. Ensure that it is placed near the window or you can also make some external arrangement for cooling of console such as cooling the machine through a pedestal fan.
But as your Xbox already have E74 with one red light Problem which can be solved by only repairing it, no other alternative.
Either you can send your Xbox to Microsoft (Please note that microsoft is no longer providing extended warranty for E74 with one red lightError) and wait for 3-4 weeks. If you don't want to wait for a month, you can also fix E74 with one red light problem with the help of this DIY Video, the guide will explain step by step approach to fix the problem. Choice is yours.

What does 2 flashing lights mean on an xbox 360?

The two red flashing lights on the left side of the circle indicate the thermal limit has been reached. (over-heating) Check to see if the fan on the back of the unit is blowing air. There are external fans that can be added to keep the GPU. (Graphics Processing Unit) and CPU (Central Processing Unit) temp down. Keeping the temp down can prevent the dreaded RRD. (Red Ring of Death) Here is link as an example of a cooling fan.
Shop around and find one that you like. Remember, when it comes to these computer chips, cooler is safer.
