    1. See above where it says 'Serial Face Software', that is not what I typed!

What I typed was: Serial Interface Software

    2. Your link doesn't work, however hand copied it, since there is no way to cut and paste it, and went to that site. Why? It is just a copy of the manual which I already have!

I don't know about the 'Project Control Panel', but you can call up a menu on the Projector which gives you a "Source" option which toggels between 'Video' and 'Computer', which I think you must be talking about,..and yes,...it is on,...you guessed it 'COMPUTER'.

    3. The VGA Cable has 26 pins on the Projector end, not 15, the Computer end has 15, and yes they are all there. However, with that said, I do not know which ones are used, and how they cross over.

I can not locate another cable like this, and no longer have a tester for this kind of cable. Naturally, I could go pin by pin with the VOM, and check for continuity, but without knowing how the cable is made, what would I learn? I could make another cable, even without connectors, just by putting solid wires into the sockets, but again I don't have a Schematic Diagram, so this method is a loss, also.

(So, not being able to test or replace the VGA cable - it is possible that it is bad)

    {However, in my opinion that is unlikely}

The connections are as good as the screws can make them !

    4. The Specific Information for the Notebook PC is as follows:

    MFG: Hewlett - Packard (****)

Model: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC (had it more than 6 months so probably obsolete by now)

Rating: 3.8 Windows Experience Index (have no idea what that means)

    Processor: AMD Turion(TM) X2 Dual Core Mobile RM-70 2.00ghz

    Memory(RAM): 4.00 GB

System Type: 64-bit operating System (This is where I think the problems is!)

Windows Vista(TM) Home Premium Service Pack 1 (crappy OS system)

    5. I know where the "Function Key" is, and I know where the "F-4 Key" is - tried that already with no results

    6. Can't find anything in the control panel that says anything even remotely close to 'Disable the screen spanning box'..............along these lines I have played with all the settings in what Vista's Control Panel has listed as "Windows Mobility Center", which seems to be the place to make all the adjustments for Two monitors, etc. I have also played with all the settings in that same box tittled 'Presentation Settings' - no luck notta nothing!!!!

Also went to Device Manager to look for conflicts, etc., all indications are that the computer sees both monitors and sees them as working properly, but the projector has only a blue screen of death.

    7. Don't know who made the first comments - not me!

So so far no luck - Question, What about my initial inquiry about the Software and Drivers?

Are their updated versions available anywhere that are 64 bit compatible?

Do I need them? (it almost seems like Windows Vista doesn't need any software - just plug in the projector and go) - But it doesn't work????

I can plug in a second monitor or even a TV and it works all day long just fine. I can go to 'extend my Windows', and move a window from one screen to another, or I can 'Mirror' my screen just fine, I just Can't project my very nice Power Point Presentation, or anything for that matter.

    PLEASE HELP !

    OK,

All pins check out as diagram suggests with the exceptions for the NC pins.

12 has continuity with the two pins to the right of the sevens and 15 has no continuity at all.

Please advise if this seems correct

    thanks

  • gbuckbee Jul 24, 2009

OK Plugged the cable back in and tried function + F8 = nothing Tried FN + F4 = nothing

Went to control panel and set all the funtions again with Windows Mobility = nothing

    Frustrated

  • gbuckbee Jul 24, 2009

Just FYI, I said that the 12 pin had continuity with the two pins to the RIGHT of the 7 pins (the diagram shows two #7 pins for some reason) I believe these are the ground or unused.

HOW EVER ALL THAT IS MOOT, NOW, BECUASE........I was finnally able to gety a hold of an InFocus Tech Guy, who informed me that this machine only accepts input at 640 x 480. Once I manually changed the resolution down to that,...presto! The vista machine new to lower the resolution, as when I plugged in the InFocus machine, it automatically went to a lower resolution, on both machines, but apparently not low enough.

So bottom line, I solved this problem myself by lowering the resolution to 640 x 480.

The wiring diagram was helpful, so how does this work? Do I need to accept your solution?

    please advise

Hi there,

You have mentioned that you have a VOM. I'm going to ask you to please check your VGA connector (15pin to 26 pin) if this was built/conneted like in below diagram. If not, then I think you should try getting a new connector or build new one.

need updated drivers that will work with Vista 64 - 969e35e.jpg

If you've got the correct connector, connect your projector to your laptop then press "Fn" then "F8". Then that's it, it should work.

    Hi there,

I really understand your frustrations and am really sorry about that. Also,I would like to thank you being patience doing our suggestions.

Regarding pin 12, it should be left unconnected to any of the pins. If you're saying that it's connected with pin 7, then it is connected to the ground of your green color data pin which should not be. If there's a way you can disconnect connections on pin 12, then that would help us more in our troubleshooting.

Just to further explain what we are doing in relation with pin 12, please see below matrix. Note that in the wiring connections I've give you a while ago, pin 4 and 11 is tied in the GND

VGA pinout : monitor ID detection pin assignments4 11 12
    ID2 ID0 ID1

    n/c n/c n/c no monitor
n/c n/c GND Mono monitor which does not support 1024x768
n/c GND n/c Color monitor which does not support 1024x768
GND GND n/c Color monitor which supports 1024x768
    GND means connected to ground
n/c means that the pin is not connected anywhere

    Hi,

I'm glad you've already sorted it out. If you find my advise (particularly on wiring diagram) helpful somehow, then you can accept it. If you're not satisfied, then it's ok with me if you will accept this. Bottomline, you're problem is now resolved, that's what important.

Cheers and enjoy your new setup!

Please open this link and see page 3.

http://www-pc.uni-regensburg.de/hardware/MONITOR/INFOCUS/LP580/INFO/580eintro.pdf

Open the PROJECT CONTROL PANEL and make sure the expected input is from the VGA port.

=======

Check both ends of the VGA cable and make sure the 15 pins are in good shape.

USE the screws to ensure there is NO connection problem.

=======

I will need the make and model of your laptop to give you more detail.

I'm giving you the general steps right now.

Turn on laptop.

Want until Vista OS boot up and login.

Want until everything are finish loading.

Look at you laptop keyboard carefully for FN or FUNCTION KEY on the lower left and a blue? function key on the top for enable external monitor port.

This is almost impossible to locate.

HOLD FN and The ext. monitor ennable key (part of the F key on top).

With some luck you will see part of the image.

The rest can be adjust via windows control panel and video setting.

DISABLE the screen spanning box.

Please post information to me so I can follow up.

    Hi
Do you have a chance to go over my troubleshooting list?

The function key part is very difficult to do.

Locate the enable external port F key is the tough part.

    I has a HP laptop and it's F4.

Combination of FN and F4 will fire up my laptop external port.

Please post your laptop model number on comment page.

Do you have a monitor you can plug into the laptop? Just to test the built in VGA port is operational.

Do the Fn + F4 and see do you see what you get.

If you get the image in the external monitor then plug the project and see what happen.

I still pdf manual so please reply to comment page.

There are no drivers for this printer on my new Lap Top (Windows 7) What do I do?

There are no specific Lexmark X5470 drivers for Windows 7, however, the Vista drivers work. I recommend not to plug the printer to your computer yet. First, check if your Windows 7 is running on 32-bit or 64-bit by clicking on the Windows logo Start menu > right click on Computer > Properties. Then, download using this link: http://bit.ly/b09DKc (for 32-bit) or this link: http://bit.ly/bEvOxQ (for 64-bit). Follow the instructions. Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, leave a comment and I'll get back to it. Thanks.

How do I hook up my lap top to project onto my 42hdt79.

I got it to work using an HDMI output on my laptop. If you are using the VGA connection then you will need to buy a convertor to get it to work. The problem with this TV is that the resolution is 1024x1080 so the picture doesn't look quit right in a when using windows, but video playback looks good.

When you upgrade to Vista 64 bit, you also need to update and upgrade all drivers to the 64 bit version. Please update the drivers for your Audigy 4 sound devices and your remote should be back in action.
