  1. Take out your battery and the power button for about 60secs.
  2. Start the laptop using the Adapter [without the battery]
  3. Lighten up your laptop...remove any external device attached [printer, scanner, pen drives etc.].
  4. It could also be a RAM problem, try changing the RAM if you have two start with one and exchange them.
After that when the system starts you can do the system restore START--ALL PROGRAMS--ACCESSORIES--SYSTEM TOOLS--SYSTEM RESTORE to restore it back to an earlier date when laptop was ok. THEN LATER ON PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN.
  • Try restarting after an hour gap.
  • If this doesn't solve your problem call the company people.Their might be a Video Card problem or any other internal hardware problem.

I have a 18 month old inspiron 1545 and suddenly its display went to dead black. But still windows is loading up i can hear sounds and music but can't see a single blink on the display. Don't know...

Hi paramvirgull...

Hook your laptop to an external monitor and see if the screen comes on...if it does then your lcd screen is faulty and needs replacment.
If it does not come on then re-download your video driver/s. If that does not work.
Maybe your lcd inverter or backlight bulb is faulty and needs replacement.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

Connect power cable, turn on laptop and press F12 key when the Dell logo comes up.

when you hit F1 key it was on the Dell screen logo right? so after hitting the key F1 it just go straight black screen with a cursor?

Check if a self-assessment will display and run on the screen. Just follow the prompt messages on the screen to guide you for the error messages which will help you to identify the problem.

Dell inspiron 1545 won't boot turn on start up

Unseat and reseat the memory in the laptop one stick at a time in each slot one at a time. Turn on the laptop after each reseat of memory.

If that doesn't work then take out the hard drive and then the dvd drive.

Turn the laptop on again and if you still can't get video on the screen then the motherboard is defective and would need to be replaced.

Unexpected shutdown in dell inspiron 1545

it's not clear if the laptop shutsdown while in use or while its idle. it it shuitsdown while its idle meaning keyboard and mouse not touched for about 5 minutes this might caused by the power options from the control panel. try to turn off the power options make sure it is set to never.
if shutsdown happens while moving mouse and touching keyboard this might be cause a conflicting windows update. try to reboot computer the boot to F8 then select last known good configuration. if this fails try to run PSA test. power off the laptop then press and hold on the Fn key then press power button at the same time just one, this will run the pre-boot self assessment to check memory and hdd problems, once you see colors display press Y to continue testing, take note of any error code might display such as 0142 and 0146 this are hard drive issues and might needing to replace your hdd.
