Question about Ricoh Aficio CL3500N Laser Printer

PCU replacement My Ricoh Cl3500n is not even a year old and is already gone through both the black and color PCUs. Is this a necissary part to replace? Or is there a way to clean them so I don't have to replace them?

I'm buying the PCUs through the company we purchased the printer from. The printer is in the business center of my hotel so it gets used a lot which is why the printer is going through them so quickly. Problem is, this is the brand standard printer for our brand so I don't have many options.

Unless they died suddenly without any moaning and groaning from the motor, they can be made to work again. See my COMMENT under my question " We have a 3500N that we can not keep PCU in. Not the answer, the comment. And if you do not want to try it, I will buy them for a couple of bucks. It will work. Just be patient. Waste toner tube is plugged with rock hard toner...... How does it make sense to buy both PCU's for $500-600 when the printer didn't cost that much to begin with?

They have a "life" that is dependent on number of prints made not so much on time. Keeping them in the printer untill they have copy quality issues or the printer stops makes them last a little longer, and no you cant clean them. Do you buy the maint. kits or just the PCU's? -Carl

I have a ricoh aficio cl7000 and there is a error code black pcu type f - is that the black toner?

No, the PCU is separate from the toner. It is basically the drum imaging unit, and it can easily be replaced if you have a new one. When you open the printer's front door there are a row of black units running diagonally down the front of the copier -- the black PCU is the upper left most one.

You can buy a new black PCU from your local dealer, or else you can find one online from many different sites. Make sure you get the black one -- the color PCUs are separate.

I have a Ricoh Aficio CL3500N When I print a vertical page there are thin black lines going down the left side of the page. What causes it?? And what can I do??

Hi, thin black lines are most likely (but not definitely) caused by something in the black PCU (photoconductor unit), either the drum or the charger. Replacing the black PCU will likely get rid of your lines. The Ricoh code for a black PCU if you don't already have one is 402448.

Where is this toner waste tube?

From Service Manual:

SC441: PCU (CMY) motor error
The drive motor of the CMY PCU is not locked.
Causes:
• Defective gear
• Voltage between pins 2 and 14 (CN12 on engine control board) abnormal (not +24V), or pin 12 (CN12 on engine control board) unable to send motor clock
• Defective CMY PCU drive motor
Solutions:
1. Replace the CMY PCU.
2. Replace the engine control board.
3. Replace the main drive unit assembly.

It would seem that any way you look at this, it's going to be a pricey fix. Of the possible fixes, the easiest would be to replace the Color PCU (drum unit), but is not guaranteed to be the correct fix.

If the Color and/or Black PCUs have never been replaced, this could very well be the solution to your problem. Both the color and black drum units are rated for 15,000 copies, so if you are close or over, this is the route I would take....

You can check your print count by:
1) Pressing MENU on the control panel of the printer
2) Press the down-arrow key until you get to "List/Test Print", then press the ENTER key
3) Press the down-arrow key until you get to "Config. Page", the press the ENTER key
4) A configuration page will print out, and on that page near the top you should find "Pages Printed"...

Hope this helps!

Ricoh cl3500N printing with blank streaks in middle of page and faded quality black printing and black ink blotches on sides

The voids and blotches can be a bad black pcu, the voids san also be toner on the glass slat obove the pcu,s there are 4 slats one for each color, on the pcu itself on the upper side is a narrow long opening, the glass slat is above this opening when the pcu is in the printer. It will take a flashlight to see any toner on the glass.

Ricoh Aficio CL3500N PCU issues

These machines were actually made by Panasonic and they eat PCU's there is no rhyme or reason, they just do. I would replace all of them as soon as possible. These printers were pretty much interim technology for Ricoh until they developed thier own engine. I highly recommend the new 400 color series, low cost per page, vg color and consumables last a long time!

The PCU is the photconductor unit. There is a black pcu and a color pcu. Did you replace these or replace the toner cartridges??

Assembly of Ricoh color laser printer - error message

On the Ricoh 3713 you can do a hard reset by going on the main board toggling dip switch 101-1 on and then off, entering 97, pressing the "aps" key, and then power cycling the printer. Might work similarly on the CL3500N.

Ricoh Aficio Color Registration Error

One of our Ricoh CL3500N printers- less than a year old- gave us a "color regist error" after changing the transfer belt.

Ran the "adjust color regist" without results. It would just finish and pop back up with the same error.

Color test page printed no color, just BW

I reseated everything, and even replaced the PCU without positive results.

A couple hours later I went back, took everything out (be sure to keep the pcus out of the light!), and vaccuumed the heck outta that printer.

For whatever reason- maybe there was a chunk of toner hanging out, maybe I knocked something loose or back in place, whatever- but when I put all the parts in and turned it on, the error was gone and color printed great!
