Is there fuel in the tank?
Is there a shutoff valve between the tank and the float bowl that is closed?
Is the shutoff valve vacuum operated? If so then there could be an air leak that prevents the valve from opening.

My 19hp engine is flooding out the motor. if i take the bottom line off the carb it will run for a minute or more and then die. with the line on it floods immediately

Sounds loike the float is either stuck open or there is dirt in the carb. You might want to take the carb off, remove the float bowl, and inspect the float and needle valve. Spray the carb with carb cleaner, especially where the needle valve seats and all of the passeges inside. I would suggest getting new gaskets because the old ones usually break when they are removed. I hope this helps, Good luck.

Huskee Easy Cut 14.5 hp riding mower will not stay running. Immediately dies after cranking

Sounds like your float in the bowl is sticking..not allowing fuel to continue to feed gas to the carb. Take the bowl off and remove the float and needle valve and clean them..Note check and see if their gas inside the float itself..some times they develope a small rust hole partially filling the float.with gas. ..not allowing sufficient fuel to feed the carb..will need new float. GOOD LUCK.

Engine will not run, but will start with a starting fluid. I have changed the spark plug, air filter, oil, and fresh gas.

Sound`s like your not gettimg fuel. 1 take fuel line loose from carb. (have a bolt handy to plug gas line unless the gas is old then drain gas into a suitable container for disposal.)2nd take fuel bowl off of carb. should be 1 bolt thru the bottom holding the bowl on. Be carefull not to tear gaskett. Float assy. should drop down, but should not fall out. 3rd take aresole can of carb. cleaner with the straw attached and clean the float bowl, the float area. watch for over spray onto painted area, wear glasses to protect eyes. wipe off overspray as soon as possible.4th clean jet, place straw i,nto small metal tube that looks like a part of a metal inkpin located in the center of the float comming up from the bottom. 5th,open the choke/throttel plate inside the large opening in the carb and spray that area if you can see any metal trubes in that area place the straw into that and spray.Re assemble in reverse ordear that you took it apart. Be sure to pay attention to the gaskett or you will have leak`s. rre fill with fresh gas should start and run. If you do not use equipment every week then you may want to put a gas additive into the gas tank to help prevent this from reacureing. I use a product called Sea Foam Good Luck

How can I repair my Briggs and stratton 6.5 intek

Fuel Starvation - Float Bowl Carburetor
1) remove air filter assembly
*be cautious of tearing the mounting gasket. If it does tear, you HAVE to replace it. It is part of the priming system
2) remove the float bowl fastener. This is the main jet
3) carefully remove the float bowl, the rubber o-ring/gasket will not be able to be used if it is removed, you WILL have to replace it
4) using a spray 'carb cleaner'
spray up thru the center of the carburetor
spray and clean the main jet with cleaner and 'tag' wire
(tag wire is very thin, and can be used to clean the hole in the center of the main jet)
5) clean any debris from inside the bowl or carb body
6) re-install bowl and center bolt, air filter assembly

*if you need gaskets, your Briggs dealer can supply. The kit is cheaper than individual gaskets, and all the parts needed to finish the above repair are in the kit.

Can you assist with a John Deere lawn tractor? I

Leo, try removing the fuel bowl first and checking to see if the needle valve and float are working correctly.

Typically, whenever the fuel system has been "shellaced", the small port that lets fuel flow from the bowl into the carb, gets clogged. You can check this by removing the center nut on the bowl to drop it down. (turn off the fuel valve 1st) and be careful not to let the needle valve and spring retainer fall off the float.

Once you've done that, you can spray some Carb & Injector cleaner thru this port and use a small pipe cleaner to make sure the hole isn't clogged. Also, check the float to see if it's got any gas in it. If it does, you'll need to replace the float, as it shouldn't have anything but air in it, hence the term "float".

You should be able to get the carb working fine after doing the above, since you can get the engine running by spraying cleaner (starting fluid?) into the carb.

Here's a link to the B&S site where you can get info on your particular engine by using the model number stamped on the engine itself.

Having problem starting and keeping engine running. Spray engine starter fluid and runs for couple of minutes then dies. Acts as if its not getting fuel. It is a 13.5 briggs and stratton engine. Could it...

some have fuel filter some do not , but it sounds like you have contaminated fuel and is is clogging up fuel line or carburetor, look into gas tank with a flash light and see if there are specs floating at bottom of the tank, if there are drain tank of all gas and remove tank and flush it out with brake cleaner, then disconnect both ends of fuel line and spray through tube into white paper towel until u see no dirt/debris. then remove air filter clean foam( soapy water, dry re-oil 10w30 is ok). remove carb from engine spray through main port with carb cleaner not brake cleaner, and use tube and spray through inlet tube while holding throttle wide open reassemble and it should run fine, if not u may need to disassemble carb if not comfortable with this then order new one usually under $100

Can't start brisggs & Stratton 21in mower. I

Get some GUMOUT carburator cleaner GAS ADDITIVE. Put about 1/2 TEASPOON in the gas tank and about 1 tablespoon per gallon into your spare gas. The float pin is probably sticking from winter non-use. This will free it ip.

You can also remove the bowl from the carburator and spray everything to immediately dissolve the varnish. Be careful not to lose the pin spring.
