My Facebook chat window freezes up when someone responds to me

When *chatting* on facebook, it freezes up when someone responds to me. I have to close the chat window and then reopen it each time I want to chat back at them. It works for as long as they do not respond to me...each response from them locks the window up again....

Your browser is likely the problem.
Upgrade your browser to the latest version of Internet Explorer, Chrome or Firefox.
Alternatively, consider using a Facebook IM such as Chit Chat for Facebook which will let you use Facebook Chat without a web-browser thus avoiding the problem altogether.

You might try "Clear Chat History" at the top of the chat window. I had freezing issues like this until I cleared the chat history within the individual chat window.

For what it's worth, running:
IE8
Vista 64
12gb of Ram
i7 965 at 3.9ghz

Having a slow computer was not my issue.

Try Using Different Browsers other then IE explorer 8 or below, they have problems working with new chat windows and stuff that it don't really recognize. For instance try firefox, opera, google chrome, safari 4

One of these would have to work with facebook, if not make sure you have enough RAM space to even run anything other then browser sometimes a slow machine can just freeze from working it self to hard.

Your Facebook chat window can freeze up for a variety of reasons:

  • Slow computer - upgrade or restart your computer (unlikely to be the problem)
  • Extension is trying to unsuccessfully make use of the Facebook chat window (e.g. Facemoods, SweetIM) - disable these extensions
  • Problems with your cache - the solution is to delete your browsing history.
I've written in detail on this problem here:

In my chat box the messages i send to my friends they don't receive it but when i send them same messages through messages they receive it

Chances are the friend to whom you are sending might be accessing Facebook via mobile. Mobile Facebook does not provide chat notifications appropriately and it depends on the device too. When you send message or chat, both are now equal in Facebook. Recent Facebook version, what it does is, it combines chat and message into message section. Whatever you chat is sent as message to the person,if that person is offline or not responding to chat. If at the time of receiving message, you are online, then you receive it in chat window. At the same time, you might see notification in Message area.

Eventhough it is to an extent confusing, either way,you can reply/chat and you get all messages. In short, your message never gets lost. It gets to your friend. If he/she cannot see it in Chat, they can definitely see it in Messages section.

In my facebook the online chat is not avilable so pls give me a solution.

Try installing Java Runtime to your system OS, most of the chat programs need Java runtime to function.

You can download or install online Link @
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

Prior to the above, do install the Flash Players for your Browsers too.

Hope it helps.

My facebook chat account won't respond.

If you use Firefox, check if it has Java script enabled. Anyway, I strongly recommend Google Chrome for chatting. If you have any trouble with Facebook chat, find your solutions here with ease: http://www.likemetweet.com/Facebook-news/how-to-solve-facebook-chat-problems.html

When i chat on fb its start freezing why?

The problem is with the facebook chat, it can slowdown your browser when used for a long time.
If you are using Internet Explorer, try downloading the newer version: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx
Or, try out a different browser, Firefox or Google Chrome.

If that doesn't help, try upgrading the RAM on your computer.

Multiple pop-ups switching

Consider switching browsers, I've never had this problem with Google's Chrome or the latest version of Firefox.
Alternatively, consider using a Facebook Chat Messenger such as Chit Chat for Facebook that allows you to talk to talk on Facebook without your internet browser. Moreover, its tabbed instant message window allows you to see who has sent you an instant message whilst your typing to someone else - without swapping over to that new Facebook Chat message!
