Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

Water appears on the floor infront of the freezer side occasionally and ice is forming at the bottom of the freezer? Everything else works fine. Someone told me I need to put a vinegar mixture down that round hole opening in the freezer side?

Hello, I'm going to assume this is a side by side, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back of freezer..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking down the vent instead of the drain hole...If you need any further assistance please feel free to comment again. good luck! P.s Please don't forget to rate my solution thanks! Mike

My kenmore is leaking water once a day .

You didn't say from where. Usually twice a day your de-ice heating coils come on and melt any ice that has accumulated. this water usually runs down the back of the ref. and collects in a small pan under the ref. Someime ice form around the hole that the water drains down through to go into the small pan. so then when the deicer comes on the water just runs down the bottom of the ref and onto the floor. My Kenmore does the same thing. Remove everything from the bottom of the Freezer look in the back at the bottom see if hole is clogged with ice. Remove ice then pour hot water down hole check occasionally.

Water and ice in bottom of freezer, occasional water on floor

I believe your defrost condensate pan below the evaporator is blocked with ice and now when defrost happens the water pours over the tray and to the bottom of the freezer. You will need to defrost the ice in the collector tray and the pour a solution of hot water and clorox to make sure the water ends up in the condensate pan below your refrigerator. So unplug the refrigerator remove the panel and let me know what you find. I have some more solutions depending on what you see is happening. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Ice forming on freezer

The drain is plugged. This fridge will defrost every 8 hrs or so. When it does , it will melt the frost that has built up on the evaporator. This melted frost will run down a drain under the evaporator to a drain in the bottom directly under the evaporator. When the drain gets plugged the water cannot drain out of the freezer compartment. After several defrost cycles the melted frost will overflow onto the freezer floor. When the fridge starts back up it will freez this water is the bottom of the fridge. sometimes this water that is now ice will melt on the next defrost cycle and actually run out into the floor. You will have to unplug the fridge or turn it off, then remove the cover to the evaporator. Get a hair dryer and melt the ice aruond the evaporator and drain. Once the ice is removed, check the drain and try to clear it. Once clear, replace everything but the shelves. Plug the fridge back in or turn it back on. Observe and listen for the evaporator fan. It should be running now. When working on the ice on the evaporator always be carefull. The defrost heater can be damaged if up push or pull on it too much.

Occasional leak at the bottom of the freezer side kenmore 25354703400 side by side

sounds like a drain clog in the freezer compartment above. remove the freezer rear panel and totally defrost the evaporator area, directly under the evap you see( under all taht ice) a small drain hole that has become frozen over, try defrosting with either a hair dryer( not a heat gun too much heat youl melt everything) or by pouring hot water donw the drain until you get a free flow of water down the tube. after its clear reassemble and you should be fine

Ice forming in bottom of freezer

Rita, your drain hole is frozen over and when your refer goes into defrost the water is running out into the cabinet instead of down the drain hole. Remove the evaporator cover and poor some boiling water in the evaporator drip pan. This should melt the ice and clear the drain hole....Catriver...post back.
