Question about Goodman Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

How do I safely discharge an old dual capacitor from a Goodman CKL-49-1 outside ac unit? My plan is to short across the spade connectors to the ac unit case with a screw driver-will this work? How can I be sure the old capacitor is fully discharged?

Thanks, I wasn't sure how to handle the old capacitor. I'll safely store the old capacitor until I am able to discharge it.
    Rapid response, great answer-thanks.

No, don't do that, you are going to blow the capacitor and hurt yourself. You need a Bleeder resistor, which means get a big resistor (possibly a few, in case you burn one out, they are cheap) from radio shack and touch the two spade connectors together with the resistor and you will discharge it, NEVER use a screwdriver to short a capacitor. Let me know how this turns out.

I have an outside unit mfr Goodman, model # CKL-49-1. The blower motor isn't working. I'm able to hear it attempting to start. How do I check this motor to see if it's bad? Thanks

You have bad capacitor on your unit it may not look bad but chances are it is just get the microfarad rateing of the side of the cap. should be like 55.5 55 7.5 something like that. Also check your fan motor. last. I have changed hundreds of caps this year. Russ

It doesn't look like the other 4 were used. Unless when it got "yanked" it also got cut. I am betting you don't need them though.

I have a ( Goodman CKL-49 1 ) fan was not running, I used a small wooden stick to get it to run. fan is now running but cold air is not being produced what can I do can you please help?!

The split run capacitor in the condensing unit is bad. It needs to be replaced. The reason the system is not cooling is because the compressor it not running. The capacitor is needed for the fan and the compressor to run properly. That is why you had to give the fan a kickstart with a stickstart.
Hope this helps.

My Goodman ac unit is still running but it just feels like the fan not ac. We don't know the problem but guessing the dual Air conditioning/heat Pump (CapacitorGSC130421AC) is bad. Please advise! Thank you...

If the fan motor on the outside condensing unit is running, but the compressor is not coming on, then yes, most of the time it is just a capacitor. It could also be the compressor has a short or bad valves. If the compressor comes on in the beginning, but shuts off while the fan motor is still running, then you could have a low/high charge, and the unit trips the internal overload switch because it overheats. Hope this helps.

Intertherm model P853A5 older style AC unit fan will not start to rotate when thermostat control set to cool.I have a feeling that it might be the electric motor. I removed the screen and rotated the fan...

This is most likley the capacitor. Be very careful when changing it out!!!!! Make sure to use an insulated device to discharge it first before touching it!!!!!!! To discharge it place insulated device across the two spade connectors on top.

Bad bearings on the motor or check the fan rotations . Air should always blow out the top and **** in through the sides or coils.!... Thank-you-very-much!
