If it happens after a few seconds, it may be overheating. If immedietely, the power supply unit is bad.

If it has started up before and all of a sudden won't come back on, either power supply went down or a problem with plug it self.

This could be many problems really it could even be the motherboard gave out on you the way to test this is to open your tower panel usually there is a light on your motherboard that lights up, what you can also do is push the power button and see if the fans are running in the power supply if not then something is wrong with either power supply or motherboard.

check power supply first it is the cheapest to replace.

Press start button, fan trys to start, green light comes on then changes to a red flashing light

If your fan is trying to start up but won't, your system is going to give you a warning and most likely shut down. Make sure you have good connection for fan power and that it is clean and can turn freely. You may want to cosider replacing the fan.

No power on will shutdown

Hello

First of all press ALT+CTRL+DEL and start Task Manager, there is probably some application (or other process) that is not reponding. You can kill them to let the shutdown continue, and know what is causing the problem and maybe find an update for it.

Also this means that your computer has not been rebooted properly since the installation of important system updates. If you have "Automatic Updates" scheduled on your machine, these updates could have downloaded and installed without your knowledge. To fix this issue, let the updates finish installing, reboot and then shut down your computer as normal.

Click "Start."

Click "Windows Update." Click "Install Updates" to begin the installation of any updates that have been downloaded to your Compaq Presario. When the "Restart Now" button becomes available, click it once. Your Compaq Presario will shut down Windows, finish installing the updates and then reboot your computer.

Click "Shut Down." Because the updates have finished installing and have been installed properly, your Compaq Presario will now shut down normally and will not immediately boot back up.

At times pc wont turn off with mouse windows shuts down but computer will turn off and on again immed

Try draining the power of the computer first. completely shut it down by pressing poweer button for like 5-7 sec. then unplug power supply from the outlet. then press and hold power button for another 15-20 sec. After that, plug back in the power cord, and turn computer on normally.

take out the memory and try turning it on. If it turns on and beeps the motherboard is good but the memory is either bad or the slot on the motherboard is bad. Try moving the memory to a different slot.

My computer shuts down by itself. Have problems restarting or not starting at all. The start button light stays on even after I unplug my computer.

power supply problem possibly? I dont know about the pwr light staying on but i knew someone who had mostly the same problem and it was clogging with dust and overheating. you might want to open it up and wipe it down to see if that helps

Wont start up

my wife has a presario that had a similar problem - it would boot up, then immediately shut down. I took off the side plate and blew off some of the dust inside. that worked for a couple of days then the symptoms returned. I took it apart again but this time I removed the cpu fan and the cpu heat sink. I cleaned all the **** off the fan and the heat sink and replaced it. this time it stayed on. I checked out the power supply. compaq installed a very cheap power supply - only 250 watts. a replacement power supply for the same machine but with an output of 300 watts is available. as soon as I can scrape up the change, I'm gonna change the PS
