Laptops always have an option that says wether to use the internal pointing device (your touchpad) or an external mouse or both, enter system preferences and make sure that your internal pointing device is enabled

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
New users get to try the service completely Free afterwhich it costs $6 per call and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

SOURCE: gateway laptop nv 79 mouse touch pad just stopped

I had this exact same problem and believe me, I flipped out too. I took mine into Best Buy though because it was only 5 days old and the guy from the Geek Squad showed me that there are the touch buttons above the keyboard and the one with the square box with the finger pointing to it actually locks the touchpad just so if you are using another mouse, it will not interfere. So try hitting that button and see if that works.

Best of luck to you.

Touchpad settings: right click on the touchpad icon on the Taskbar at the bottom right of the screen. Click on Default button, then Apply, then OK. Re-try. If that doesn't fix, then TouchPad ribbon inside the laptop needs to be replaced.

Just a quick reminder... Above the keyboard there are touch buttons, one of them is to turn off the touch pad, (it looks like a finger touching the pad). LOL, I know sometimes we overlook the easiest stuff....

Gateway notebook touchpad

Thank you mewms_14904. The problem was the F key. In my case it was F7 that enables and disables the glide pad of my notebook.By pressing fn key and then F7 solved my case.

Touch Pad Problems

Check for new drivers for the touch pad out on Gateway's website and maybe check in BIOS to be sure that when you plug in an external mouse it doesn't disable the touch pad. Some laptops only let you do one or the other. Also if there is any software for the touchpad aside from drivers try reinstalling that also.
