I had to replace my colour ink in my 830u, and since doing this the red light remains on, everytime i force computer to check ink levels it says the colour needs replacing. i tried putting the old one back in and after several attempts it recognised the levels as being extremely low, my black recognises no problem, although without a working colour cartridge th printer wont print anything.
please help, i am desperate to print. it annoying a i only print every couple of moths and it seems that every time i do i have to replace my ink or there a connection fault etc.
can somebody recommend a cheap printer that not necessarily photo quality. i have had a good running with this priter and it was a replacement for the ever so expensive lexmark that i had before, but now ionly want to do standard printing. thanks. if you know a solution and want to buy this off me i am open to suggestions offers or even a swap.

Re: colour ink failing
Remove the ink cartridges and clean the sensor below them.
Possibly ink on the blocking the sensor from reading the poper ink level.
After that put the cartridges back in and then go to printers on your PC and right-click the printer on the screen and try to locate a cleaning process or if you have software installed for the printer, run it through there.
Do it a few times if need be and then check the ink level.
Head cleaning it's normally called.
If it doesn't work, then the printer might simply need replacing.

After few head cleaning, ink counter running low, so ink ligh (red) flashing. Then ink counter runing out, so the light stayed on. After replacing both of ink, red light stayed on, because the compatible ink (chip) not recognized by printer. Check epson status monitor. Use original ink or refill and reset ink level counter.
open the status monitor, go to maintenance and click head cleaning. its better to do head cleaning 3 consecutive times f you have print problems like that, although it would waste so much ink. Good luck.
When red ink light flashes - one or more ink cartridges is low. When you print, a message on your screen will tell you which one(s).
When red ink light remains on - one or more ink cartridges is empty. When you try to print, a message on your screen will tell you which one(s).
Furthermore: When following the procedure for installing a new cartridge, if the red ink light was on or flashing, pressing the ink button will cause the carriage to stop with the cartridge that needs replacing under the "ink out mark" (ink droplet with a slash through it).
Check status monitor? See difference of chip reach ink out and not recognized. Reset chip that ink level reach ink out. Also check chip connector at ink tank and at chip itself. Plug ink tank securely. Check status monitor again. If still not resolved, try to use anither chip.
You have to have both the cartridge installed and then Run a nozzle check to make sure the nozzles are clean. Try running a printer self-test to make sure the printer is running properly without using the computer.
Macintosh 9.x or earlier: Open the File menu and choose Print. Click the Ink icon. You'll see a window showing the ink remaining in each cartridge.
Macintosh OS X: Double-click the Applications folder on your hard drive. Double-click EPSON Printer Utility, select the C42 Series printer in the Printer List window and click OK. Then click the EPSON StatusMonitor button. You'll see a window showing the ink remaining in each cartridge
I realised that I had to replace both the ink cartridges even though I only wanted to replace the black for it to work. Once I replaced both the black and colour cartridge the red light went off. Thanks
Hi, Epson usually recommend at least 6 cleans of the print head to clear any blockages. However, be warned this can use up a lot of the remaining ink, and may not resolve your issue. You may have dried ink in the magenta tank, and I would suggest replacing the ink if the first solution does not work
Many problems about printer heads but most common causes are it was not installed properly in the printer. Try to check if the printer is on when you get the cartridges. it will damaged the printer if taken forcibly. Here are some suggestions to do:
1. Check your complete set of ink. I it is filled with the color indicated. 2. if you brought a new one it must be sealed. 3. If tampered or the package is open, it may have been used by somebody. 4. Install the printer cartridges properly using the guide/ user's manual so that cartridges are taken cared off. 5. When cleaning the print heads do not put much force because print heads are sensitive. Colors from yellow, magenta, cyan and black are very small so take care of cleaning. I possible use tissue because it absorbs well without blocking the jet pin of the print heads. 6. When new settings are applied you must restart the PC so that new settings will take effect. Thanks
