Here you have different procedures on what to do if you get that error message. Please get back to me if nothing works.
The exact procedure is:
• Even if the battery level is strong, try the following:
Remove the batteries in the Wii Fit Board for at least 1 minute…… better 15
Try these steps!
1
Turn the Wii console power OFF by pressing the POWER Button on the
front of the console. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet for a
few seconds. After a few seconds have elapsed, plug the cord back into
the wall outlet.
2 Turn the power of the Wii console ON. When
you see the Health and Safety screen, open the small flap on the front
of the Wii console to find a red button labeled "SYNC." Press and hold
the SYNC Button down for 15 seconds. This will clear all the syncs on
the Wii, allowing you to get a clean start to begin the process
described below.
3 After holding the SYNC Button on the Wii console down for at least 15 seconds, you can now "re-sync" your Wii Remotes:
a
With the first Wii Remote you wish to sync, remove the battery cover on
the back of the Wii Remote to find a small red button just below the
batteries.
b Press and release the small red button just below
the batteries on the Wii Remote; the blue lights on the front of the
Wii Remote will blink.
c Quickly press and release the red SYNC button on the inside of the white flap on the front of the Wii console (picture).
d
When the Player LED blinking stops and stays lit, the syncing is
complete. The LED that is illuminated indicates the player number (1
through 4).
4 Start the game from the Wii Menu, then sync the Wii Balance Board from the opening screen of the game.
Insert a Wii Balance Board compatible game disc in the Wii console.
Use
the Wii Remote to select the Disc Channel from the Wii Menu, then
select "Start" to begin the game. Press the A Button to bypass the
wrist strap screen.
Open the small SD Card slot cover on the front of the Wii console.
Remove the Battery Cover on the bottom of the Wii Balance Board.
Press and release the SYNC button on the Wii Balance Board. The blue light on the board will start blinking.
Press and release the red SYNC button on the Wii console while the blue light on the board is still blinking.
The blue light will stop blinking and stay on steady once the syncronization is complete.

If you are still unable to sync your Wii Balance Board, please call 1-800-255-3700 so that they may assist you further.
Make sure that whatever game you are playing (ie: Wii Fit) is fully loaded before pressing the power button.
If the light continues to go off, you may need to re-sync your Wii Fit balance board to the console. To do this, load Wii Fit, and when the program is running, press the red button inside the battery cover. Immediately press the same type of red button inside the panel on the Wii located between the eject and reset buttons (on the face).
If these steps don't work, try fresh new alkaline batteries and repeat.
Note that there have been lots of complaints using rechargable batteries. I've had the same alkalines in my unit for 3 months now. If insistent on using rechargables, I suggest buying several of the same battery and a quick (15 minute or 1 hr) charger as opposed to ANY after-market recharging product. It will be cheaper and more reliable.
Nintendo had me set and reset the console and then the Wii fit board. They also had me take out the batteries from the Wii fit board, and repeat the reset. Apparently this works in many cases. IT didn't work for me, so now I'm bringing the unit in for repair. I am just a week past my 90 day warranty- they are charging me 47 bucks to fix it! What a sham! that's half the cost of what I paid for the darn thing!

I found this on a related post, but it should help:
Hi, After posting my message here I started to fiddle around with the wii fit again and went slowly step by step through the synchronisation steps. Voila it works! what I had done wrong was that I did not press the red synchronisation button for the wii console when the blue lights (after pressing the sync button) on the wii fir board started to flash. you must do this when they are flashing. Hopefully you are as lucky as me and it will work for you too.
