Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven
My son was cooking a pizza in the oven and tried to use the kitchen timer on the microwave to tell him when the pizza was done. Instead of setting the timer, he actually started the microwave, so it was cooking (~15 min) but nothing was inside and now the microwave is pretty much dead. No display, no nothing. I turned the switch on/off at the power box, but that didn't help. Is the microwave fried? It is a practically brand new GE Profile (30", 2.0 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven -- Model: PVM2070DMWW). I just replaced it a few months ago. Please don't tell me I have to go buy another one! Thanks for your suggestions.
Put him up for adoption before he burns down your house.

You have a fuse inside the microwave that sounds to me as if it has blown. This fuse is accessed by the removal of the outer cover of the microwave. It looks like it is a fuse that you would have in an older car. Small glass fuse with a white covering aroung the glass part. This fuse is located near the magneto(looks like a large magnet) Remove the fuse and take it to an appliance parts house for replacement and to insure you are getting the correct fuse. Also, be very careful once you remove the outer covering of the microwave because, even though it is unplugged, it still has electrical power stored inside. Be careful when removing and replacing the fuse. Good Luck

When cooking in a microwave the magnetron gets very hot there is a fan to help cool it down but if the microwave is empty it works a lot hotter as there is nothing to absorbs the waves and all cook a pizza for 15 min is never a good idea it will dry to completely but in sort your son as killed your microwave the heat as more then li key frayed the pcb and killed the mag but there is also a chance that all it is the thermal cut out on top of the magnetron as tripped due to the heat give it a couple of days and try it again if this dues not work sorry you will need a new one
