Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

Microwave turned on but nothing inside to cook, so now it's dead!

My son was cooking a pizza in the oven and tried to use the kitchen timer on the microwave to tell him when the pizza was done. Instead of setting the timer, he actually started the microwave, so it was cooking (~15 min) but nothing was inside and now the microwave is pretty much dead. No display, no nothing. I turned the switch on/off at the power box, but that didn't help. Is the microwave fried? It is a practically brand new GE Profile (30", 2.0 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven -- Model: PVM2070DMWW). I just replaced it a few months ago. Please don't tell me I have to go buy another one! Thanks for your suggestions.

You have a fuse inside the microwave that sounds to me as if it has blown. This fuse is accessed by the removal of the outer cover of the microwave. It looks like it is a fuse that you would have in an older car. Small glass fuse with a white covering aroung the glass part. This fuse is located near the magneto(looks like a large magnet) Remove the fuse and take it to an appliance parts house for replacement and to insure you are getting the correct fuse. Also, be very careful once you remove the outer covering of the microwave because, even though it is unplugged, it still has electrical power stored inside. Be careful when removing and replacing the fuse. Good Luck

When cooking in a microwave the magnetron gets very hot there is a fan to help cool it down but if the microwave is empty it works a lot hotter as there is nothing to absorbs the waves and all cook a pizza for 15 min is never a good idea it will dry to completely but in sort your son as killed your microwave the heat as more then li key frayed the pcb and killed the mag but there is also a chance that all it is the thermal cut out on top of the magnetron as tripped due to the heat give it a couple of days and try it again if this dues not work sorry you will need a new one

How to bake pizza in rival micro wave .??how to set it?

Unless the pizza was specifically packaged for microwave use, pizza cooking in a microwave is usually a bad idea. They don't turn out well. Although microwaves are referred to as "ovens", they really don't bake things, they boil them by heating the moisture in the product. Thus, pizza crust will not rise and get crispy unless the pizza was pre-made to be microwave reheated. Those pizzas will give instructions on how to microwave them.

Use kitchen timer not cooking timer, it's written on your oven timer pad. I did that before

Panasonic microwave

I would check the cooking instructions on the side of the pizzas packaging. If microwave cooking is not listed I would not recommend cooking it in a microwave as this could make the food unsafe to eat.

But if you're short of an oven I have found a guide on barbecuing a pizza:

Occassionally (about 5% of the time) the microwave continues to cook and buzz after the timer has run out and the fan stops running.

sounds like the program bord is faulty,, when your finished cooking leave the door open a little that will save the microwave from trying to cook nothing?

Tappan TMV151FS over range microwave starts to work and then dies

Never run the microwave without a load (something to heat)!!! That kills the microwave generating parts.

Sounds like a 'thermal' protect switch is activating after running. Make sure that (if the unit is mounted in a cabinet) that there is sufficient space around the unit for proper air flow and that nothing is blocking the vents. Try setting it on a counter top and heat something. If it works properly and doesn't shut off, the venting space is the problem. You may have to have the cabinet that it sits in redesigned for more clearance.

Daewoo microwave that won't cook

More than likely a door switch inside the unit is misalligned or faulty. Crack it open and check for proper allignment and good open/closed circuits with a VOM.

Fire help...need a new part or new microwave?

There is a flame sensor whose job it is to cut power if there is a fire. It has probably blown.

It may be called a thermostat, thermal cutout, or thermal fuse. It will look something like the drawings below. (The service info I have on this model is spotty).

But generally, there is one on the floor of the chassis behind the control panel. It should read open on a continuity test.

There will normally be two others, and they will read closed (also called shorted or zero ohms). One is on or near the magnetron and the other is along the top of the cooking cavity.

If you or someone you know wants to look into this, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

NOTE: There may also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
