You might have a failed connection inside your mp3 that is causing this malfunction

My Philips GoGear SA3125/02 (2GB) cannot be turned on unless I connect to the the computer. I therefore cannot listen to it without the computer. When it is turned on, it indicates Philips, and then GoGear...

Your Mp3 players battery is not charging. That is the reason its you are not able to use it without connecting to the computer. A replacement battery should resolve your problem.

My go gear vibe mp3 4g won't turn on

It may have come to the end of its life.
Mp3s don't really last forever.
Hopefully for you , this may not be the case.
Things you could try is checking the battery.

Phillips gogear is frozen

Press and hold the Power On/Off key and the Volume + key for a couple of seconds to reset

If that alone fails, run a Repair in the Philips Device Manager

Battery life

Hardware issue - may even be caused by plugging this player into a computer running either Vista, or Windows Media Player 11 (or it could be a good old manufacturer's defect).

If you go into the Philips Device Manager and try "Repair," and it still doesn't fix the player, try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

If it still doesn't work, then this player is history. But, all is not lost - the charger for that HDD1830 is no longer available from Philips - people would pay $40 to get their hands on that charger alone - post it on eBay, and I guarantee that you will have bidders.

This particular Mp3 player wasn't future-proof - it just can't handle the latest Windows software/OS.

Good luck - hopefully my methods will fix it. Otherwise, you can recover at least $40 bucks by selling that charger on eBay.

Philips HDD1630 MP3 Player about 2 years old, no excessive use, won't charge any more or be seen by computer. Only shows low battery on screen then dies. I am a little technically incline, can anyone tell...

You may have to change the battery, but try Reset, Repair, and Update (firmware upgrade) first. Also, there is an FAQ on the Philips website for the computer does not recognize device issue (but only follow it AFTER you have tried reset, repair, and update).

Open Philips Device Manager and try repairing the device. [connect your GoGear to the computer, open Philips Device Manager (Start-->All Programs-->Philips), and click on the repair tab. Now, disconnect your GoGear from computer. Turn the GoGear off if it is not already. Press and hold the volume + key and connect the GoGear to the computer (while still pressing the volume +). A window will pop up saying a repair is being performed. now you can let go of the Volume + button. The repair will get your device working normally again. WARNING: the repair process will delete any music/other media file from your GoGear.]

After repair, perform a firmware upgrade ("Update" tab in Philips Device Mgr while GoGear is connected to computer - see Philips website for more details)

Worst case scenario - Even rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charging cycles. The battery for the SA178 is an LI-Polymer 300mAh 12-hr battery. Philips won't fix it for you, but you might want to find a local repair service.

Wont turn off

When a Gogear or or other mp3 player gets low on battery life they begin to act up. What has happen is you battery life has been depleted. Even after charging the battery, it will not be able to act normal. I have had this happen too. The only thing you can do is call Phillips to see if there is some kind of warrenty still left or you can have them fix it or try to fix it yourself. The batter is somewhat expensive, $40. I ended up just selling it on eBay explaining the battery problem and someone bought it. Then I used that money and bought a functional one for only a little more. It really is the best way to do it unless you have an extra battery around and know how to fix it. Unlike the iPod, there are not a million knock off batteries out there for the Goegear so you are basically stuck with the options I gave you, sorry.

Here's a better solution - no offense, silly girl. First, find out if the computer will recognize the GoGear when you plug it in. If so, then use the Repair function in the Philips Device Manager.
If the computer doesn't recognize the player: Disconnect the GoGear from the computer, and turn the player off. Hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you re-plug the GoGear back into the computer. After 45 seconds to one minute, Windows will go into recovery mode and resucitate your player.

Also, the number for the Manufacturer - Philips - is
1-866-PHI-LIPS (or was it 1-888? - one of these is an adult line, the other is not) :-)
