My PC beeps every time the CD-ROM drive is used

My PC has a constant beeping sound every time the CD-ROM drive is used (have just realized that's why) anyways the board is a microstar ms-6176 i don't know if it's caused by the drive or the IDE cable or the IDE slot on the board? any help would be great. OH and the cd drive seems to be working fine as does the computer, so???
:) thanks ~V~

If your CD-Rom is on a separate cable slave it to your hard drive cable and see if that helps. Remember to set the jumper on the ROM to slave.

Hearing more than ONE beep is "bad" news.

Check that the wires from the fan on top of the CPU are connected to the power-supply pins on the motherboard, so that the fan spins when power is supplied.

Check that the RAM is correctly seated in its slots.

Check that the video-card is correctly seated in its slot.

Disconnect the power-connectors from the disk-drive and from the CD-ROM drive, and then start your computer. If it still beeps, without these devices attached, then these devices are *NOT* the source of the problem.

If all else fails, take the computer to a qualified technician.

Sounds like a bad motherboard. To be sure, I'd remove or unplug all devices (hard drive, CD-ROM, etc) and verify. Sometimes, those devices can prevent a bootup. If you've removed all those and same thing, bad board.

Hello,

There are a number of things that can cause this to happen. Try taking the battery out of the notebook, disconnect the AC adaptor (if in use) press the power button a few times. Re-install the battery, reconnect the AC (if needed), press and hold the power button for about 2 seconds. This is a hard reboot and should correct you issue. When the notebook powers up, make sure you remove any cd's in the cd-rom drive.

Good Luck,

Cardinal Rule 1
Dont use ur expensive computer for Games, go to a galeriya
Cardinal Rule 2
Beeping while playing games is a part of the computer's operation...or it can be part of that game.

Some times ur accessories (like ur printer/USB device/mouse etc) is not connected properly...

if the sound is from the PC's speaker then it can be disabled but u will also not get the games sound.

but if it's from your PC's external speaker then u have to live with it or u can mute ur speakers.

My computer turns on and i see the light and hear the fan but that's all it does and the monitor goes into sleep mode. Help!

Open the PC and disconnect all the drives cables including Power.
Plug in the PC and wait for a beep. If not, removes the memories. When Then plugin again, it should beep few times. if not, most likely the MoBo is dead.

If with one memory beep once, try with the other memory if you have more than one. Then, try this connecting one drive at a time.

Booting Problem

The first question is, are you attempting to boot from your CD ROM and if so why? I need to understand more about what is happening before I attempt to answer your problem. Are you attempting to fix a problem or re-install your operating system? Do you always boot from a CD and if so, why not the hard drive? Is the same operating system installed on both your laptop and your desktop?

Compaq presario sr2109 - beeping sound/wont turn on

Actually if you hear this intermittent sound every two seconds you must check out the RAM of you laptop. If you are a bit technical you can take out the ram cleans its contact with a fibre pencil. Re put it back and restart your pc, if it continues to beep just buy another brand new strip of ram.

If this solution is ok please give weight to my solution, thanks alot

I had 3 beeps, pause, 3beeps, pause and so on.

Defective SMD transistor near the ATX power connector. Original is a 2SB1202 (marking B1202).
I bought a 2SB1203 which is stronger and soldered it in. The K7S41GX board runs as fresh as from the dealer.
