Question about Plumbing

1 Answer

We live in a slab home. We have been noticing a order that smells like sewage. It is mainly coming from the floor heating vents in the kitchen and in the back laundry room. Is there a way to find out what is making the smell. We sprayed the vents out with a bleach and water solution but then smell came back in a couple of days.

I am not Quite sure when you say Floor Heating vents I am not sure what country you live in but if you have Floor vents like Floor drainage in bathrooms and Laundry You may have A water trap underneath the Drains ( aprox 2inches to 4 inches in Diameter )they are meant to take any overflow and spillage away In the water " S "Traps there should be some water when this water seal breaks or dries out you do get a sewerage smell Just top them up with water,Poor a small amount of water into them and that should rectify your Problem

Some where under your slab your sewer pipe has broken. most times you must cut away the concrete floor and explore for damaged pipes.

Rotten egg smell/sewage smell in restaurant

check for dead rodents in the ceiling. Have a plumber check for blocked /leaking drains especially around the dish washer drains . If you have had pest exterminators in lately then something may have taken the bait . IT will be best to get in professionals to remove the smell as quickly as possible as to customers a smelly restaurant is equal to bad hygiene and food poisoning.

Smell of sewer in the house

Ensure all your additional rough in plumbing is capped, and toilets or sinks that are not used for long periods of time , sometimes p traps may dry up allowing sewer gasses to enter the home so use them once in a while or fill with water once in a while ,same with floor drains. If that isn't it check that you have them installed.

The right type of vent for a moble home

Some vents are adjustable where as you can turn them at the angle you want get those if you can,the vents dont have to be for mobile homes only. Take one of your older vents to an air conditioner parts store they should be able to match one for you.

When the toilet is flushed, there is a sewage smell.

Most likely you have an uncapped sewage vent inside your house somewhere. if this is the case all you have to do is locate the vent and cap it, or vent it outside.

My water heater runs constantly lately and i noticed water at my property line and around half my house. i can't tell where the leak is coming from. house is on slab. i am afraid to ask. the floor...

Does the hot-water line running from the heater go into / under the slab before going back into the house?

Or does the pressure relief valve drain line on the water heater go into / under the slab ?

It could be as simple as a faulty pressure relief valve on the heater (which would be the most likely of the two possibilities). When the water heats, the pressure builds in the tank, the water flows out the faulty pressure relief valve and down the drain line under the slab.

A plumber would be the person to call.

About 5 days ago I noticed a strong chemical smell (like open permanent markers or nail polish remover) in my kitchen. The smell permiates the whole house, but is strongest in the kitchen area when I close...

No. The coolant cannot leak as a liquid and soak into the floor. Also, the smell of the coolant (refrigerant) does not have the acetone/ketone/laquer thinner smell that you are describing, and if someway the smell originated from the frig, the smell would without a doubt be inside the frig as well. You need to look frosome container stored in a cabinet or stored on conrete floor that has rusted or opened some way and the thinner/cleaner/solvent has leaked from such a containerwithout notice. Problem running heater

Its not good that you dont know where the air filter is. Odds are there may not even be one in place. In Most mobile homes they dont pay much mind to proper filtration. The heat strips are covered with dust. If the heat Strips are that bad then usually the whole unit is clogged. Is there a unit inside the mobile home?? Or is the unit outside quite large and have ducts running to it??

Diswasher drainage in an island

Dbootin,

I suggest just putting a dedicated Drain in the island next to the Dishwasher. You can hide it in side the island. Under the house, tee into the Main Sewage drain.  You should not need to vent it as the sinks vent is near enough to keep you from worrying about that.
