Re: Why does the scanner hesitate when feeding the paper...

Is there a gear grinding noise associated with this? If so, call your local dealer for service. If not:Clean all the rollers you can reach with a cloth dampened with alcohol. Check for any obstructions in the paper path like torn paper, heavy toner buildup on guide plates or the edges of the scanning glass, or any paper guides obviously loose or out of place.

Canon DR9050c: Is double-feeding very frequently despite new rollers (consumables). Only three years old. Problem is new. Has been working well up to this point.

Double feeding is very unlikely with a New set of rollers, as they are clean; however if the fine dust from papers stick to it, it can cause slip. The pickup and the feed rollers push the paper towards the scanning module, while the retard roller initially (in the bottom) pushes it outside. Incase there is a second sheet, it will be pushed out and only one page will enter the scan module.
Slip can take place if the paper is very smooth or has find dust on it. Stapled papers are held together at the point it was stapled, even after the stapler pin has been removed. Ensure all pages are not sticking to each other.

Documate error 8

I am a Support Engineer with Xerox Scanners.

E8 is a Paper Jam error that could be caused by:
- paper crumpling during scan.
- paper is multi-feeding all at once instead of feeding separate.
- scanner continuously tries to feed after paper has fed through.

if the paper is crumpling during the scan, make sure the inside of the scanner is clear of any obstructions. use the paper guides in the ADF tray to keep the paper straight when feeding in.

if the paper is multifeeding while scanning, fan out the pages before inserting them into the scanner. if problem persists, try cleaning the rollers with rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth.

if scanner tries to continually feed after the paper feeds through, the ADF tray will need to be reseated. open the scanner and remove the ADF tray at the top. line up the 4 keys at the bottom of the tray with the 4 corresponding key slots inside the scanner. push the tray back until it clicks into place.

There is a line across the page on all pages scanned through the feeder

If the line runs in the same direction the paper feeds, that being top to bottom not side to side, then there is something blocking the scanner. Most sheet feeders have a seperate glass that is used for scanning and that will result in bad scans from ADF but not if you scan directly from the glass. Clean the ADF glass with a soft cloth slightly damp with window cleaner. Look closely because even small bits of almost invisible goop like post it note glue can be enough to cause this type of image defect when scanning.

Scanned images are scaled

the feed rollers likely have paper dust accumulation and are slipping .. you can clean them with special cleaning fluid or just water .. dont use alcohol since that can remove elastomers that give it traction ... since you have so many pages thru the machine then the rollers may be warn or hardened and need replacment ..

CANON 2080c scanner not scanning bottom quarter inch of page

Check your scan settings. If you have chosen A4 and the paper is slightly bigger, this can happen. It is also possible when the scanner does not pick up the paper in the first attempt because it is worn out. In such an event, you may find a blank on the top of the image. Clean the rollers with a damp cloth. Dont use solvents.

Feeding problem

There are quite a few optical paper sensors in any scanner. If one of them is blocked by a shred of paper, the scanners 'assumes' the paper is available and starts scanning. Try to blow air and clean the scanner. Take care not to damage the sensors. S. Mohan, India

Paper feeds through straight at first then scans crooked at the end

This could be because of unclean rollers. The scanner picks paper neat, but images is crooked. This is because paper is stuck on one side and the other side is contnuing on the other, giving it the skew. There may be something sticky on the roller, possibily a left over cellophane tape. Remove it and clean with Isoporpyl alcohol. Dont use solvents.

Trouble with paper feed

Frequent jams are because either scanner picks up more than one paper or does not pickup at all. If scanner picks up more than one paper, then paper is sticky. If the paper is thin, it can pick up two at a time. Fan the papers so that they are not sticky.

Paper at the point of entry into the scanner must be crisp. If folded or 'dog-eared' trim it. Rotate the paper if any other side is crisp, roate the image later.

Clean all the rollers thoroughly, the pickup roller, retard roller and other rollers in the scanner. One can rotate the inner rollers and clean totally, not just waht is seeable area. If the rubber is worn out, it must be replaced. TRy a single page to check if the rubber is okay. Jarring noise is because the motor is 'stopped' and cant rotate because paper is stuck. This can affect motor/inner parts, but is designed for normal use.
