Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook

1 Answer

I have 32 bit Windows Vista, 80GB HD, 1 GB RAM.When I turn my laptop on it is a lottery whether it starts properly(without a black screen) or not.If it doesn't, I can wait approximately 15 minutes and restart it correctly, and sometimes I need to repeat this procedure more than once.Once I do get it started, I get error messages inviting me to start in safe mode or safe mode with command prompt, or start windows normally. And sometimes the error message includes the option to launch recovery.I've tried all those options and same thing: I still can't restart my laptop on first go.And when I do let it start normally, everything is ok, but when I try to restart it goes black again.I can hear windows starting ok,and i can even blindly enter my password and hear it successfully booting up, the only problem seems to be I cannot see anything!! I've had this problem for over a year. How can I get my screen working properly again? Is the fact that device manager no longer sees my DVD ram drive related at all?

Ok when I followed your instructions the scannow results said that there were some errors which it could not fix.And when i checked device manager it said that all the drivers were up-to-date (although Device Detective seemed to think that that my display adapter, ATI Radeon xpress 1100, was not up-to-date).Also, to install any other dates it tells me to restart computer, but when I do the screen goes black, then I hear the sound of windows password request.I then(blindly) enter my password and a short time later I hear my startup programmes loading, but I cannot see whether the updates are installing. All I can do is hit the power button(for the billionth time), then wait 10-15 minutes and hit the power button again, then it restarts and this time I see the Acer logo(whenever I see that I know I'm not going to get the black screen any more). But you can be sure that the next time I turn the computer on the black screen will return.Ok next idea?

Once you get it started up again,Click start, all programs, accessories, cmd(command prompt) Right click on it and run as administrator, once opened type SFC/SCANNOW and let it complete, then go into the device manager and update your video drivers and anything else that needs updating.

Next time you start it,tap the Alt+F10 keys while it boots up,It should open the acer recovery manager, this will allow for so additional testing.

Also,Did you happen to have the vista disk in when you ran SFC/Scannow?

And last but not least,If you need remote repair,I can do that as well.

Can travelmate 2428awxci run windows 7?

Without any hardware upgrades, I'd say no. Below are the minimum requirements to run Win 7. A stock model of your laptop doesn't meet the minimum.

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:
  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Windows 7 system requirements Microsoft Windows

windows 7 os requires atleast 16GB avilable space while windows vista requires atleast 15gb. It could be true that your system requirements are not sufficient for the new os you want to install

Hello, Yes if you reformat your hard drive, it will remove any virus software that would be on it. Windows 7 have a recommended minimum pc configuration. Make your pc is up to those configurations.
    • 1 GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
    • 1 GB of RAM (32-bit); 2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
    • 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit); 20 GB of available disk space (64-bit)
    • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Asus notebook windows 7 totally frozen..."not responding" Can't even exit without holding power off.

This is due to the fact that your ASUS Eee PC 701 PC does not offer minimum System requirements to run windows 7

Microsoft has published their minimum specifications for a system running Windows 7
    as
    • 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
    • 1 GB RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
    • 16 GB available disk space (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)
    • DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

    ************
But I suggest following as min to run smoothly

    • A Dual Processor (AMD or Intel) – you can use a lower Celeron or Pentium Processor, but you will regret it

    • 2 GB RAM (operating memory) – you can use less, but you will regret it

    • 16 GB available disk space and another 20 to 30 GB if you plan on running applications

    • A Vista compatible graphics card (DirectX 9 graphics process with WDDM 1.0 or higher)

    • A Vista compatible sound card

    • Vista drivers for any other unique hardware you have on or connected to your computer
    *******************

Laptop shows only 4gb ram & 300 gb hdd

This is the limitation of a 32 bit (x86) Operating System. A 32 bit OS can detect upto 3GB RAM only.

You may either try installing the x64 Bit of XP Operating System or Vista Service Pack 1 or 2 for 32 bit Vista Operation System to resolve the issue.

After installing the SP 1 or 2 of the Vista OS in the Computer, the OS will detect 4GB RAM.

    Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much Ram am I using?

Unless you are running a 64-bit version of XP or Vista, Windows will not report the full 4GB. It's because of the way the program addresses and uses RAM. Here is a page that gives a little explanation. The bottom line is that if you want to get the full use of 4GB of RAM you need the 64-bit operating system.
