Whats a total loss ignition? I've been a tech for power equipment for 0ver 30 years and have never heard of it.

Testimonial: "Never heard of total loss igntion ?dearie mee i think you should look it up on wicky"

this is not something you commonly do on power equipment. it's more of a race application. your question is vague with specs. not all magnetos are created equal. so how could anyone even give you an answer without even knowing what you have to begin with, or explain why your doing this.

Briggs and Stratton 19.5 hp engine. Does the small wire coming in underneath bring power in ?

If it's a magneto or ignition module then its a kill wire. I know of no Briggs and Stratton engines that used battery powered ignition. So connecting the kill wire to the armature of the magneto (ignition module or engine case) will prevent spark.

I purchased a Farmall Super A it needed a total rewire thought I had a diagram of the wiring, but when I rewired the tractor will not start.

There seems to be plenty of information available online - the wiring is relatively simple and basic, though the 6 volt version with a 4-wire regulator is a little more complex. The 12 volt conversion with a single wire alternator could hardly be simpler.

It seems the ignition is by magneto. Apart from the stop control these units are self contained and if the engine has a good cranking speed and the magneto (and engine) is in good order the engine should start.
The magneto is usually reliable with just the contact breaker points needing periodic attention. When the magneto fails it is a task for a specialist to sort out as a rewind is often needed...

I have no spark, can I test the coil with a multimeter? Can a fly wheel be cause of no spark - do they loose magnitisum over time??

Suggest you make sure the magneto kill shunt (small gauge wire from coil) is open (not grounded).

You can check the secondary (high voltage) side, but the primary side will depend on whether it's a magneto or an ignition module.

Typical secondary resistance is 7 to 10 Kohms.

There are plenty of videos on testing magneto/ignition modules, just search "magneto test".

The typical test for magnetism is to stick a screw driver flat against a magnet, if it doesn't fall off then it's ok.

HUSQVARNA RZ4623 NO SPARK

If the unit has been stored outside the magneto and ignition may have gotten wet and developed some rust. If this is not the case, the ignition or magneto may have failed. Make sure you have good battery voltage when checking.

Engine only running on one side

You didn't indicate what type of motor or tractor. If you only have spark on one cylinder and if it's a newer engine with electronic ignition, I would suspect the magneto armature. If it's older with points, then it could be the points. Points are under the flywheel, the magneto is next to the flywheel, follow the sparkplug wire. Measure the gap between magneto and flywheel before removing. When buying the magento, be sure to get the model number and brand from the motor.
