Error code 2000-0146 in device Hard Drive 1

Will not boot from CD, will not boot in safe mode. So i cannot rollback with system restore. Will not boot using the "Last known good configuration" option in the boot menu. Always blue-screens at startup. Need help. Some think it's a virus and some think it is a hard drive error. If possible i need to know how to wipe the computer using bios or a form to where the operating system does not have to load. A walkthrough for that would be nice. Service warranty on the computer ran out and dell won't help at all without charging. It's a Dell Inspiron 1525 Notebook. If anymore information is needed or might be helpful, please let me know.
Thank you.

I just had this same problem a few weeks ago. This error code means you have a bad sector in your hard drive which is cheap and easy to fix. You just need to unscrew the bottom screws holding your hard drive in and place the old cover on the new hard drive you buy. Screw that new one in and reload your programs. Your computer will be as good as knew after that. Look on your invoice to get the hard drive specs so you can buy a new one or just enter your service tag on the dell site and check out the specs of the ones they offer for upgrade.

First you have to do is the remove your RAM,, clean with air soft cleaner. You need also to remove the keyboard in order to remove the dust beside on your CPU. You have a hardware problem, that need to be maintenance, that why you have a blue screen. Or otherwise your MB is not working at all.

If you have external USB and/or CD disconnect them and try again. Otherwise it could be a fault hard rive - try to boot from an emergency CD (hopefully you created one when you installed Windows).

My Dell Inspiron 6000 won't boot up. It keeps

The DST error code 1000-1046 is definitely a failing hard drive. ..I am not sure why your laptop is not recognizing a CD in the drive, but you should go into your BIOS settings, and in boot sequence, make sure that the CD drive is the first boot device. If you can't boot from a CD, you are not going to get very far with installing a new hard drive...

XP wont boot and i cant boot from the restore disk. I get error code 1000-0146 when i run the DST Short test

That error code sounds like the Hard Drive is failing or has failed. Can you boot into Safe Mode? Hit F8 as you power up and choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt. If you can, enter chkdsk /r at a command prompt (the black window you'll see). You say you can't boot from the restore disk - why not? Are you booting to the green Dell Windows XP disc that shipped with the computer? Check the boot order in Setup (the BIOS) and make sure it looks to the CD drive first before trying to boot to the hard drive. SpinRite is a good utility for fixing these things, but not free, and involves booting to CD.
Hope this helps!

Hard drive has bad sectors on it which is why its giving you that message even though you can go thru the restore. Normally going thru the system cd and then the recovery cd should bring you into windows with the device drivers installed.

Lenovo X60 Laptop blue screen error wont boot up

Try to go into safe mode by pressing F8 as soon as you turn on the laptop.

If you get into safe mode then go into system restore and choose a date when the laptop was working properly. Let it rollback to that date and reboot the computer and let it go and see if it goes back into windows.

If you get a blue screen even when trying to go into windows then the operating system is corrupted and you'll need to do a factory restore on the laptop, meaning the hard drive would have to be wiped out and the operating system put back onto the hard drive.

I have the dreaded ''blue screen of death'' but can use my safe mode for networking. help????

What operating system are you running?

Most blue screens are caused by a hardware issue. If your happy to do so, strip your PC down to the bare basics. Remove all RAM apart from one module, and PCI cards except graphics and remove mouse and keyboard.

If it now boots up OK, you know one of the things have disconnected was causing the problem! Plug each one in one by one. Also, you can try Fixing the master boot record, or booting from your Windows CD and using the repair functions

What you are seeing is a reference to an address in Memory. if you keep seeing the same hex code you may have a bad memory module installed. You can test by creating a boot disc with memTest86

Before doing that though what were you downloading/installing? Was it a driver? if so try rebooting the machine then pressing F8 to go to safe mode>boot...go to device manager>find the device you updated>double-click go to driver tab>try to rollback to the previous driver then reboot.

you may also want to try a system restore to a previous time. Just click NO once you sign into safe mode to bring up that prompt

Next step is remove hard drive and see if it is recognized in another computer. The Hard Drive could just be bad, but you need to rule out the motherboard drive controllers that could also be bad. Also try a known good drive in your system.
