SOURCE: 2000 Honda CBR 929rr

The problem is in the ignition switch, although NOT an electrical issue. You will need to remove the ignition and take out the tumbler that the keys rides in. On the back side of the tumbler, there is a white tab that is moved by an arm that slides a pin up and down which locks the steering. Dont be intimidated by this repair. I was when I did it, but was actually quite easy. Just take you time and take pics to look back on as reference.

SOURCE: I changed the starter solenoid on my 01 cbr 929rr

I will be working in the dark hear. I am assuming the solenoid
has 4 wires connected to it.
When you reconnected the wires you most likely installed
a wire on the wrong terminal, or the new solenoid is defective, and has a terminal shorted to ground. Read the remaining information and use the Ohm Meter to see if one of the terminals on the solenoid is shorted to ground. The solenoid will need to be mounted as when it was installed to test for a grounded terminal, or if you are proficient in using a Volt Ohm Meter you know there are other ways to check the solenoid without it being mounted.
Most likely it opened the main fuse. Look in the Fuse box and see if a fuse is open, don't replace the fuse at this point. Repair all the burned wires or damaged items created from the overheating. Remove all of the wires you attached to the new solenoid. Separate the wires where they do not touch each other or the vehicle. Using a Volt Ohm Meter place the negative meter lead to a good chassis ground. If the negative post of the Battery is handy hook it to the negative battery post. Check for around 13.7 volts on each wire you removed from the new solenoid. No voltage should be on the disconnected solenoid wires, Now using the Ohm Meter Setting, check each of the same wires for direct continuity to ground. You may have one wire that shows to be grounded. Use a wiring diagram to see if it is applied to ground. Should the wiring diagram show the wire not to be applied to ground, locate where the wire is shorted to ground. Use some viable information indicating what terminal
each wire should go to when reconnecting the wires. Connect one wire at a time to the solenoid making sure it is secured to the terminal and making good contact. Each time a wire connected, Use the ON/OFF Switch and trying to start the engine, hold the switch in the start position for 5 seconds while looking for smoke. If you see smoke release the switch and return the switch to the off position. And CRY. If the wires are reconnected correctly you will smile and not cry.
