Question about Maytag MFI2568AES Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator

There is ice in the icemaker but it doesn't advance to the outlet - don't think the coil thing is moving. Also I can't get the front panel of the ice maker off - where you push the tab.

yesterday when i was able to get the assembly front cover off I removed all the ice. of course then there was no ice to see if it worked. today no ice came out and now I can't get the cover off to get at the assembly. I push tab and pull - nothing. I pried the tab off but still couldn't release the cover so put tab back on. so i don't really know if there is ice being made at this point. i don't hear the coil thing turning to move ice along. briefly hear a sound like it will but then nothing. the water dispenser is working fine.

  • edavis1 Jul 23, 2009

I will try these things tomorrow if i can get the cover off. can't do a thing with it on. any ideas on that?

  • edavis1 Jul 23, 2009

it was difficult to open and also shut the first time. i think that pushing on the tab is supposed to release a latch that holds the front cover on.

  • edavis1 Jul 23, 2009

I can't try the suggestions until i can get the front cover off.

  • edavis1 Jul 23, 2009

it sounds like it is going to start to run and then immediately stops. i have been thinking that is the problem and would order a new one except first i have to get that front cover off. i suppose i could pry it off and break it. is replacing the assembly fairly straightforward?

Ii have no diagrams of your particular fridge, don't start prying, if you break a panel the job becomes very expensive very fast, have a repair person install the new auger motor, you might also want to look at www.repairclinic.com for more info on your model.

There might be some ice cubes blocking it from working, try melting the whole ice maker system and try again ones its cleared of any ice - blockages.

well, these are not what I specialize in.you may want to get another expert if this is not helpful:

her is some general advice on the topic

There's no iceIf your ice maker has stopped producing ice completely, check these, in this order:

  • It
may be turned off. Look for the wire along the right side of the ice
maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If the wire is in the raised
position, the ice maker is turned off. If so, try one of these:

    • If your ice maker has a small red plastic lever, lower it to lower the wire.

    • If there's no plastic lever, simply lower the wire.

    In
either case, the ice maker should begin producing ice again. Also make
sure that the temperature is 8 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the
freezer is too warm, the ice maker won't cycle properly.

  • The
ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice. If so, melt the blockage
using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts! Also
replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if
    necessary.

  • The ice maker head assembly may have broken
parts. Look to see if the gears are broken. Check to see if the small
plastic arms that rest against the ice rake are broken. If the ice
maker head assembly is modular and you've found broken parts, you can
    just replace it.

no idea. since you where already able to open it up yesterday, what changed? should open up the same way as before.

Water stop dispening from ref door outlet

    NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
Check Temp inside freezer. It has to be down to about 10 or 15 degrees
This can cause slow ice making if its too high even tho its freezing everything else at 25 degrees
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
    The icemaker is 110v
See if water is in icemaker.
Pour water in Ice Maker and wait to see if it ejects.
If it ejects thenyou need to replace water valve in rear bottom of fridge(Its the part that
attaches to water line out of wall)
If it doesn't eject then it is a faulty Ice Maker.
If its leaking or no water at icemaker or door either one, then the valve at the rear bottom of ref needs replacing
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also if it is getting drinking water to the door but not to the icemaker (or vice versa) Then you need to replace
the water valve at the bottom rear of the fridge. It is a double valve and one side is not working
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear

There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
    Clean condenser coils underneath

The Cold Water outlet does not work. When you push the outlet lever back no water come out.

    NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
First I would check the fan in the freezer.

Why is the ice maker not droping ice / Mod. ET1FTTXKQ00 / Type C21TFA01 Whirlpool 08-01

Take a 4 inch piece of 14 gauge insulated wire and strip 1 inch of insulation off each end. Bend the wire into a U shape.Remove the plastic cover from the front of the icemaker. Insert the bare ends into the terminals marked T and H on the face of the icemaker. The wheel should move and dispense the ice into the bucket. If it does not move and drop the ice replace the icemaker.
