Question about Remington MicroScreen DA-407 Electric Shaver

Will not seem to charge and turn on

I didn't use it for a few months, and then recharged it, and it ran OK, but battery life seemed short. After further intermittant use, it seemed to "start slowly" and then get stronger after a short charge. But now the green "charge" indicator does not come on at all, and despite being plugged in all night, it will not start. Is there anything I can do? Thank you

The rechargeable battery has degraded and should be replaced to get back optimum performance.

If you can solder and disassemble the razor yourself, you can buy a new replacement battery and do the repair yourself. If you prefer to have it done by a qualified service center, you can contact Electric Shaver Service in Nebraska at 1-888-476-1785 for an estimate, they are quick and turn around repairs usually within a week of receipt.

You can also check their site to find the battery you need for your razor, if you want to do the repair yourself, just look for your model number to confirm the correct replacement battery.

I've had this razor and it's predecessors for years - the real
problem isn't the battery, although mine only runs while
plugged-in ...
What REALLY happens is a torque problem connected to the
side trimmer. They run, run slow, change speed, etc. The
solution is to disassemble, or soak in alcohol since beard
shavings get caught internally, and eventually cause the
slide switch to become electrically intermittent!

To disassemble the shaver, there are 2 phillips screws by the head. At the base there are 2 locking tabs. Carefully separate the halves after removing the screws. replacement batteries for both DA 307/407 are Battery NiCad AA W/Tabs, Sanyo 700 Mah 1.2V.

If the rechargable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

Is it possible that the battery becomes empty when you don't use it a few months?

Yes it is! the manufacture suggest taking the battery out if the camera sits idle for weeks and months, that way you can have the full use of the battery.

Fail to start

I think I would change the petrol in the tank as it may have become a bit stale. Also I would replace the battery.Make certain the replacement battery in fully charged before you try again.

My Canon powershot SD20 seems to constantly have a drained battery. I have two batteries for it, and each one seems to be good for about five minutes, then the camera says change the battery pack and it...

I'm not sure of your charging regiem but it is possible that you hav not let the batteries become disscharged before they back on the charger, short cycling particular batteries gives them a memory and reduces their life significantly. Most rechargeable batteries have a life of so many cycles, just say its 100 cycles. If you put on charge when battery is only down to 80% and charge it up this counts as 1 cycle. Therefore your battery life would be reduced to 20% of what its capable of. This is only true if short cycling the chargeing of the battery is frequent. Not knowing exactly what your charging habits are or the age of them makes it a guess from me. It otherwise might be a fault in your charging circuit which would require specialist diagnosis.

Short battery life

Some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. Suspect this of yours, in that you mention that your batteries aren't lasting long. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info:

Sharp Camcorder VL-NZ100E battery doesn't seem to charge

2.7 volts is too low. Usually camcorders use battery at least 6 volts. Problems with rechargeables especially NiCds and NiMH, a cell will be shorted. for 6 volts pack, there are 5 cells in series (5 pcs x 1.2 volts with load , 1.35 no load). If you are measuring only 2.7 volts, it is highly possible that 3 cells are dead. As for the charger, if the same charger is used to power the camcorder and you said the the camcorder operates using the adaptor, this means that the charger is OK. You can ZAP the battery back to life but I will not recommend. It can be dangerous. If you can buy the battery, I suggest you do it since the old battery, even when zapped, will not provide enough juice anymore.
