You will need to remove the base plate and beater bar, and check in the suction cavity behind the beater bar. That's where they usually plug up.

My vaccum is about 1 yr old and has very little suction, in addition the sweeper is not working

You probably have a broken belt on the beater bar (sweeper) or a string/rope caught in into to cause it not to turn. Last option if it is a cannister type, that the electrical connection in the hose are not connected to the beater-bar unit well.

If suction is bad, you may have a full bag (replace with a fresh one). Alternatively, you may have a clog somewhere along the hose or just inside the unit.

My vacum will not pick up, it is spitting the dirt out?

Check for blockage.

Most likely place is in the tube leading up from behind the beater bar. While unplugged, remove beater bar & belt & check.

If you have a strong shop vac, remove beater bar, belt, and bag, applying suction to the tube in back of the beater bar will many times dislodge the clog with little effort, sometimes though it will take some fishing around with a stiff piece of coathanger wire or similar.

Normally when you can apply suction with the shop vac to the tube in back of the beater bar & feel suction at the tube were the bag connects, you know you've got it all and you should be unclogged. Put it back together and you should be ready to roll.

Hi, My Kirby Ultimate G upright has very little suction. The engine sounds fine when turned on and the bag is not full at all. Suggestions?

In general, when the beater brushes on vacuum cleaners are not rotating, the debris on the carpet is not "bounced up" and into the suction area of the vacuum. With this in mind it might be a good idea to see if your beater brush or brushes are rotating freely. If they are not it could be due to the ends of the brushes being bound up where they meet the vacuum case or the belt(s) could be loose or broken. That would be the least expensive thing to start with. Please let me know if you have questions.

My dyson vacuum motor is sounding very high pitched... The tubes are all clear and there is suction with the tubes not not real good suction on the beater brush area....

Your dirt path is clogged, probably not far from the brush area. This is the reason you noticed the hi-pitch sound coming from the motor.

You may have to remove the hose to clear it.

Hoover U6476-910 - Very little suction from the bottom

If you haven't already, remove the beater bar. This is accomplished by unplugging the vacuum and turning it beater bar up. Remove the clips or screws that hold the plate on the beater bar and set aside. The beater bar sits in sockets, so carefully remove the bar, noting the correct position of the sockets. This will make reassembly much easier. Slip the beater bar out of the drive belt. Now, inspect the suction cavity that the beater bar would discharge into. Usually, things clog up here as there is a flex hose that catches things, creating a pluggage.
Hope this helps, --W/D--

The brush rotates on my dyson slim but there is no suction. though there is suction from the hose... has anyone any ideas????

Un-plug the machine first. Turn the unit over and remove the bottom plate. Check for and remove any debris in, around, or behind the beater bar assembly. While you're in there, look at the beater bar ends where the bearings sit. and clean any debris, hair, etc, from those areas as well.

When using my vacum upright its very low in suction, it used to be so powerfull that it lifted my carpet slightly....when using the tools section its as strong as it should be please help, ive cleaned it...

Check the following items:

* The bag and connection - change it if it's full

* Turn the vacuum over and inspect the beater bar area for any clogging. You may have to remove the bottom plate to really clean it out.

* The beater bar and especially the drive belt - this area gets dirty and the belt can wear out after continued use. The brushes can also wear out on the beater bar

Try to work on the vacuum in a well ventilated area. Make sure you unplug the unit so it's safe to service

Vac wont pull/**** anything while we try to vac floor,

Hello RonD30,
If you are getting suction thru the hose and not from the bottom section.. you have a clog somewhere inline with the base area... If you have access to a shop vac ... unplug the Hoover, open up the base and remove the beater bar /belt assembly.. then hold the shop vac nozzle on the point of entry to where the Hoover pulls the debris into the dirt compartment. I am fairly certain you have a clog somewhere in that ducting.. Stubborn ones may need a little motivation.. so you may be able to get an electricians snake or metal coat hanger bent to release the jam..
Hope that helps..
Regards,
Rick..
And you are right , regarding Lowes..but don't exclude Home Depot from the same rating..LOL Once the sale is done.. so are they...
