Nikon S9500 Camera. The lens protection shutters do not open completely, but can be pushed open. Nothing seems to be stuck in the shutters.

A good lube for this is armor all. Wipe all the area or the shutters with a q tip that is dipped in it.

Shutters on the lens won't fully open

Stuck automatic lens covers are fairly. But usually it's very easy to fix, without even opening the camera. See this link for troubleshooting steps for this problem.

Lens shutters are stuck

If you have recently dropped the camera or exposed it to excessive dust/sand or dirt the shutters guide tracks may be jammed and unable to move. I would advice taking it to a camera repair shop, and to avoid opening the camera on your own as it may cause further damage/voiding of warranty.

Automatic lens cover won't open

Hi,
Do you mean the shutters which protect the lens? If this is the case, are you able to carefully open them by hand? If so, there is a chance that a bit of dirt is preventing the shutters from opening. You might be able to get rid of the dirt by carefully sliding a bit of paper (I find yellow post-it notes perfect for this) in between the shutter and inside of the lens to shift the possible dirt. Also, you can try putting a minute drop of isopropyl alcohol (used in lens cleaning fluid) in between the shutters and the lens assembly so the possible dirt dissolves - then try to carefully open the shutters by hand. I don't recommend using any other alcohol/liquid for that.

Other than that, it's an absolute pain to get to the shutters to fix them properly on TZ3. Basically, the lens would need to be almost completely stripped-guide to do that would be beyond the scope of this site :)

Good luck,
Raf

My son pulled out one of the shutters that opens and closes over the lens. The shutters no longer open all the way. The camera is brand new. How can I fix the rest of the shutters? Should I pull them...

You can pull off the other one if you want. To put it back in your basically going to have to take apart the camera. The "Shutters" on the outside is nothing more but to protect the lens will its in the camera. The actual shutter is inside the lens that open and closes very quickly when you take a picture.

Think of it this way, the shutter in the lens opens up to let in light that shows the image to the sensor behind the lens. Then it closes to "finish" capturing the light".

The "shutters" or "doors" on the outside do not move once you take a picture. They only close once the lens retract. (When the camera is turned off or idles)

Hope this has been helpful.

Shutter will not open/close (Disengaged from motor - "flopping" loose)

Well, replacement of the shutter unit (lens barrier)instead of the repair seems more realistic... Please contact your nearest Sony Service for the price estimate. If you need more info please advice. Arpi

Lens problem

If you've replaced the batteries with fresh ones, it probably has a broken zoom assembly. It'll have to be replaced by a repair shop.
