Pension usually starts at age 60. Some countries provide pension at an earlier age like 55. As I understand it, if you are a war veteran or serve in the military, it will be given to you automatically even without applying.

I can only comment on the UNITED STATES...

you need to verify the matter to your insurance agency where you applied for, ask them if your wife will be qualified to recieve a pension too. if its ok then you ask them about the requirements needed, so you have to prepare those requirements and submit it to them. remember they have application fill it up and attached authenticated copy( not the original) of supporting documents you have there. hope this will help you.
