SOURCE: Nikon D300 RAW images have alot of noise / artifaction

I have bought two Nikon D300 in the past ten days, the first camera had stuck pixels, 12 of them, red dots in every image. The second Nikon D300 is so noisey in every ISO other than 100... it is worthless to me at this point. Sharp as a tack, but so noisey, the sharpness is moot. I think I have a solution, but it will involve dumping a $164,000 Nikon equipment history over the past 30 years and embroidering new patches on my photo vest which read, CANON! The fact that I even have to consider such a move makes me nausious. Nikon has betrayed many of it's biggest fans, me being one of them. I don't know what happened at Nikon to allow them to fall so far behind Canon, who trailed Nikon for nearly 40 years, but SOMEBODY SHOULD BE FIRED!!!!

Hi I had a similar problem with a 50mm prime and I fixed it by locking the aperture ring on the lens in place.

Zoom on nikon d5100

In either mode, you're zooming by turning the zoom ring on the lens? In live view mode, if you zoom in by pressing the magnifying glass button, all you're doing is zooming the display, not the image itself.

Just bought a Nikon D40 Camera and sometimes when I view pictures that have been taken, the pictures get distorted. Is this common or and easy fix. dee

Your pictures are most probably distorted because of camera shake.
If you invest in a Nikon lens with VR = vibration reduction or a Sigma hsm os = optical stabilization, this will allow you to shoot at slower speeds and will reduce camera shake.

The most obvious problem will be shooting in low light conditions without vr or os...this will give blurred images. You will need to up the iso and shutter speed with a wide aperture to achieve more stable images.
Bear in mind, when you raise the iso, you will get noiser images and the Nikon D40 does not handle noise very well - but can be eliminated with software.
Hope this helps.

I am trying to learn the ins and outs of the View NX software that came with a new Nikon D-60. The transfer seems pretty straight forward but I am having trouble with the import of my images to the picture...

The picture control utility is for managing picture controls. These are the settings for contrast, saturation, etc. This utility is not for controling/managing image files. You do not import images into it.

Does Tokina-12-24mmF/4Pro DX complies with Nikon-D3 FX Format

Barrel distortion like you describe can always be a problem, especially at ultra-wide focal lengths like yours at 12mm. Some of this can be compensated for in software... Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Elements do a reasonable job, IMO, Bibble Pro (www.bibblelabs.com) does even better, especially with the 3rd party plugins like Percy perspective correction. These are things we have to live with when we have smaller sensors and ultra-wide angle lenses. There is nothing wrong with your lens, you will probably find that this distortion is minimized if you use a longer focal length (say 14mm) and/or stop down the lens a bit.. try f8, wide angle lenses have huge depth of field.
