You need a special battery for this camera. Refer page 12 in the user manual available from this site. The battery chamber is located in the base of the camera and has a sliding lid.

Assuming the the s3100 is like other Nikon compact cameras, go into the Menus and look for Set-up. "Language" will be one of the choices. Unfortunately, everything will be in the foreign language the camera is currently set to until you make the change. If the language is a common one, you may be able to find someone to help you. If not, I would contact the foreign language department of a local university for assistance.

Put the media card into a USB card reader and transfer the images that way

i found some useful help using a usb cable conected to a extern current and as soon you put the bottom to close you unplugg your cable and than it should work this is only temporal
