Sthil weed eater will not run when hot?

My two stroke weed eater will not run except wide open when it gets hot , let off the throttle any and it cuts off, then might start back up and run with the choke about half way open after it cools a couple of minutes.

Starting procedure

Terry: According to eHow.com:

"
  • Put on a pair of safety glasses. Remove the fuel cap from the Weed Eater and set it aside. Fill the fuel tank with unleaded gasoline that has been mixed with quality 2-stroke oil in a 40:1 ratio. Replace the fuel cap.
  • Move the Weed Eater to a safe place and lay it flat on the ground. Depress the fuel bulb located beneath the carburetor approximately six times to prime the engine. Press it slowly so that fuel has adequate time to traverse the fuel line.
  • Slide the handlebar-mounted engine "On/Stop" switch to the "On" position. Slide the choke lever beneath the fuel tank to the "Full" position.
  • Depress the "Throttle Lock" lever located beside the engine "On/Stop" switch. Keeping the lever depressed, squeeze the throttle trigger. Release the throttle lock. This sequence holds the trigger in the depressed position, which aids in starting the Weed Eater.
  • Roll the Weed Eater so that it is resting on the engine and the trimmer head shield only. This will allow the spinning trimmer head to avoid contact with the ground. Brace the Weed Eater by holding it to the ground with one hand. Using your other hand, pull the starter rope quickly until the engine begins to run. Do not pull the rope more than a dozen times. If it fails to start by then, squeeze the throttle trigger and continue to pull until the engine starts.
  • Allow the Weed Eater to warm up for about 15 seconds, then slide the choke lever to the "Off" position. Let the trimmer run for another minute without touching the throttle lever. After the Weed Eater has warmed up, squeeze the throttle trigger once to disengage the throttle lock. The trimmer is now operational.

I find with my Poulan Pro that you need to let it warm-up abit before applying full throttle, I live in Upstate NY where the weather has bee great lately, however, it stalls easy ..I mix 1-pint of 3 stroke oil to 1-gallon of gas for my weed eater and have no problem

What type of oil does the poulan pro BVM 200 EL use and is the gas:oil ratio 40:1?

use - husqvarna , sthil brands high quality 2 stroke oil

as directed on bottle 50:1 that is 20 mils of oil for every 1.0 litre of petrol that you use

if you want 2 litres mix put in 40 mils of oil into petrol container
then put in 2 litres of petrol only and give good shake and fill the blower

Engine quits when throttle is opened

Most weed eaters are two stroke. You have a high and low idle screws on the carburetor. Assuming you have the right fuel mixture. Turn both screws in lightly until seated. Turn two turns out. You should see an h for high and l for low. Stat with low screw first turn in or out until running smooth. Then do the same with high idle screw holding full throttle. Once running smooth in high . Go back check low idle. Should run fine after this. Also check plug see if carbon fouled.

What is the gas and fuel mixture for a homelite st-185 weed eater

If it's not been started for that long, ensure that any remaining crud in the tank and fuel lines is cleaned out before even attempting to start it.

Put in a NEW plug, then mix up some 50:1 mix of unleaded and good synthetic 2-stroke oil (Sthil or similar). This will produce an almost smoke-free exhaust, and won't foul the plug.

If it does start, be prepared for LOTS of smoke initially, as all the old oil from inside the engine burns off.
