2004 Samsung RB1955vq fridge cooling/freezing problem

We have a 2004 Samsung RB1955vq fridge that is acting up. Last week, it stopped cooling and freezing, which the temperature readings in the front did not reflect (stayed at -2 and 38). Not knowing what else to do, I flipped the breaker off then back on and the darn thing started working again. It seemed to be okay, but then a few days later, same problem, and same ''fix''. We called the repairman, who tested everything and said the thermostat was operating, but it needed a new PBA panel.
In looking at how they get installed, it doesn't look to terribly difficult. Since the part is only around $40, but the labor he will charge is around $200, I figure it may be worth it for me to try and install the part myself. Before doing that, just wanted to see if there was something else that could be causing the fridge to act up. Knock on wood, it seems to be maintaining -2 and 38 (even flipped the breaker off and on to verify)for the past few days.

One other item my wife noticed is that when the door is left open, the beep alarm only beeps irregularly, whereas before it was steady and predictable.

Thanks for any assistance....last week my dryer..this week my fridge!

Hmm..that makes some good sense, particularly since we took the lower back panel off the night before he came (Sunday night) and Shop Vac'd a lot of lint off the coils and other areas. Since that time, it really hasn't acted up.

He also said to my wife that he thought it was losing gas. Which now I am scratching my head because if that was the case, wouldn't he want to replace more than the PBA panel?

Is there any link with the lack of beeping when the door is open?

Is it safe to keep turning the breaker off and on to check the temperature digital readout on the front? Like I mentioned before, even when it stopped cooling/freezing, it still showed -2 and 38, but after I switched the breaker off then on, it went to I think 38 for the freezer and 71 for the fridge.

Sorry for the length...but I do think you may be on to something in regard to the cleaning of the lint off the back of the fridge.

    Many thanks,
    Larry

Thank you for getting back so quick. I thought it sounded odd that it was losing gas (assuming some type of Freon or its replacement gas?)yet he wasn't going to fix that. I probably would have asked that if I was here when he came. I think I will reclean the area again, and then keep a watchful eye on how things are going. I would hate to throw good money away on a part that isn't bad. Thank you again for your help on this. This is a great forum with great people helping us regular homeowners out.

    Take care,
    Larry

I think that the thermostat breaker in your compressor is getting tired.
Please before spending your money in the PBA clean all the guts of your refrigerator from the dust that accumulates .
Then try it and let's hope it's fixed,

Thank you.

    Larry:
I don't think that the unit is losing gas.
    Because symptoms are different.
To move the breaker is safe.
We don't know where the current goes.
About the beeping, I really don't know.
Please clean it with care and let's see what happens.
Use a long brush in order to remove debris and then vac it.
    Thank you

Samsung Bottom Freezer RB1955SSH not cooling after being plugged up for over 12 hours

If the freezer is not cooling, then problem relates to compressor.but still wait more 12 hours and see if it starts cooling.Basically it takes approx 24 hours to regain its cooling, once its unplugged for few hours and then plugged in.---------- So once again check after another 12 hours and see if you notice cooling. But if there is no cooling then yes its compressor issue.----------- If freezer will not start cooling, then fridge will also not start.------------ Click this link below and get more details:--------- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/08/freezer-taking-too-long-to-cool-or.html ----------- This will help, thanks.Helpmech

FAN NOT TURNING IN FRIGE COMPARTMENT AND TEMPERATURE READING ON DISPLAY IS WRONG.

I'm not an expert, but I did notice on other posts that the fan sometimes freezes up causing problems like this. Other people fixed it by defrosted their fridge for 24-48 hours, and this allowed the ice to melt and allowed the fan to start turning again, and all was fine . . . until it happened again in a year's time.

Supposedly, set the temp at 4-6C to stop this.
