Question about Leisure HOMEPRIDE Electric Fireplace Heater w/ Remote

Marco gas firplace

I recently bought a house w/ a Marco gas fireplace. There is no owners manual and the company has gone out of business. I have never used a gas fireplace, so I have no experience w/ this. It has a direct vent going out through the roof, so it is not one of the Marco models which were recalled. There is a key and a valve on the wall that it fits into, but I don't know if there is a pilot that I need to light. I would really like to get a hold of an owners manual, but short of that I would like to know how to turn it on. Can you help me?

Hello, I have a similiar problem. It may sound silly, but I do not know what position the side air intake lever should be in when I operate my gas/wood fireplace. The external opening is shielded, so I don't know if the vent is open with the lever up or down. I can't feel any real difference in air flow in either posistion, but I have been told it is not a good idea to operate the fireplace with the outside air intake closed. So my basic question is-----standard lever installation with up=open or up=closed?

I have a Model 792864B. Before you attempt to light the pilot light - make sure that any wall control switch or remote control for the fireplace is in the off position. Locate the gas supply line. There should be a gas supply valve to turn on the gas supply. The valve is usually painted a different color than the supply line like blue, green or yellow. Open the valve by pivoting the handle to be parallel to the gas line, usually counter-clockwise. When it is closed it is at a 90 degree angle from the supply line. Locate the pilot light assembly - this is the pilot light. There should also be a red or black ignitor button and a black or green valve control knob with the words "on" "off" and "pilot" on it. It may be located inside a black box, mine is marked heatolator, that has a lift off top. Lift off the top of the box. Push in the valve control knob and turn it until the word "pilot" is in line with the arrow (my arrow is red) or indicator line. While pressing and holding in the valve control knob - it presses in about 1/4", press the red or black ignitor button repeatedly (once per second) until the pilot ignites. Once the pilot is lit, continue to hold the valve knob in for about 30 seconds and then slowly release. The pilot should remain lit. If it remains lit, press in and turn the valve control knob to the "on" position. The on/off wall or remote control switch should now light your fireplace. If the pilot doesn't ignite, turn off gas supply valve, wait about 5 minutes and try it again.

I also have a Marco fireplace with what sounds like the same setup as you. I've been digging for an owners manual myself for allowed clearances around the fireplace for wood mantles and such.

If the fireplace has a key valve it DOES NOT have a pilot. My fireplace has gas logs in it and I simply light a long match (or use one of those long necked stove lighting wands) stick it between the logs and turn on the gas. Make sure that the match doesn't extinguish as you poke it in between the logs (it may take 4-5 seconds before the gas lights up.) Also make sure that your flue is all the way open when using gas as your fuel.

Good luck!

Lennox bought out Marco. Google Lennox gas fireplaces and you should be able to find a technical support number somewhere. Here's a link with the recall info...it has a 1-800 number on it. Good luck.

To Kfcarpen:

Do not try to convert your Marco direct vent gas fireplace to wood burning. Neither the firebox nor the vent system were designed for wood. Trying to burn wood in this unit will create an extreme fire hazard. If wood burning is really desired, replace the entire system.

Sometimes a fan is controled by a temperature switch , AS WELL AS a on/off switch! so that only HOT air is blown out of the heat exchanger. What I am saying is that the fan may run only if: 1)switch "on" AND 2)temperature in heat exchanger at say 85* f.

I also bought a house that has a Marco model 792862B fireplace. It is made to burn wood and it has a gas lighter. I have decided that the way to light a fire is by putting wood on the garte over the gas lighter, then hold a long match or butane lighter (one of those long ones) to the gas outlet while turning the key that fits in the hole near the fire place.
Now, I too want an owners manual because I think the unit is made to provide some sort of heat through the vents that surround the firebox. I find a little lever on the right side of the firebox about half way up the front. It can move up and down about 45° and it looks like it might control air flow to the vents. However, I think there should be a fan installed somewhere inside the unit. I have a wall switch nearby that does not seem to do anything. I wonder if this is the switch for the fireplace fan and if so, how do I operate it so it works as a heat source? Or maybe there is some problem that I need to correct... At any rate, I would dearly love to have a manual and technical details about this unit.

Thanks

You could have a switch that looks just like a light switch that controls the ignitor just like a stove. Check for it nearby. Turn on gas and then flip the switch. If no switch then use a match. Try not to turn on the gas wide open just do it gradually.

Marco gas fireplace shuts off

This an easy fix. What you must do is remove the dust from the pilot safety. I use rust buster from ace hardware to gently flush the hole. If ther is no hole just shoot a tiny drop or 2 into the pilot burner where the flame comes out. Blow it out (I use a piece of tubing). The problem is the dust drops the pilot flame to a point where it won't heat the thermocouple hot enough to jold the magnet and after 30 minutes she quits. THIS is a picture of where to clean the ODS pilots in your rig.
