AC trips breaker after 10 minutes

After I check the breaker and connection, where is the overload located? is it a switch? Breaker?.....

    what trips???same thing??? theres only a contactor on a/c's all the protection is before the unit

The 120-volt AC circuit breakers located in
side the main load center protect all
120-volt wiring and components in the RV fr
om circuit overloads and short circuits.
Should a circuit overload or short circui
t occur the circuit breaker protecting the
affected circuit will "trip" preventing the flow of electricity through that circuit.
If a circuit breaker trips, shut "off"
the appliance on that circuit (i.e., power
converter etc.) and allow the circuit breaker to cool down for a brief period of time.
After the cooling down period, reset the circuit breaker by moving its lever "off" and
then back to the "on" position. If the circuit breaker re-trips or frequently trips,
contact your dealer to have the electrical problem diagnosed and repaired.
A circuit breaker identification label is permanently attached to the inside surface
of the 120-volt load center.
Maintenance and Replacement
At the beginning of camping season, inspect the circuit breakers and replace as
needed. Test by turning each circuit breaker "off" and back "on". Circuit breakers
are wearable parts and must be replaced
as needed, as part of your RV
maintenance. If you have any questions, consult your dealer.
Please contact your dealer for repair assistance when replacing circuit breakers.
CONVERTER
The power converter converts 120-volt AC power to useable 12-volt DC power
when the shore power cord is connected to an external power source.
The converter has a built-in protective thermal breaker that will shut it down should
overheating occur. Overheating can be
caused by operating the converter above
its maximum power output for an extended period of time, or by an obstruction to
its ventilation air flow. To reduce converter heat build keep unnecessary 12-volt
lights and motors turned "off"
.
Keep the converter cooling fins and fan clear of
obstructions.
Inspection and maintenance
If the 12-volt power converter is not working (auxiliary battery not being charged)
check the reverse polarity fuse(s) in the converter fuse panel.
There are no
customer serviceable parts inside the converter case and the
manufacturer's warranty will be void if
the case has been removed
. If you

Main breaker doesnt stay turned on


Tripping of the main breaker could be an indication of a short or an overload. To check for an overload you will need an amprobe to test the amperage load on the breaker. Turn all the secondary breakers off. Attach the amprobe by clamping it around one power wire. Turn the breakers on one at a time and check the reading of the amprobe. Most breakers will handle about 80 % of the breaker rating before tripping. If it trips below this point the breaker may be weak and will need to be replaced. If the amprobe pegs out at any time and the breaker trips the secondary breaker that was last turned on probably has a short in its wiring somewhere. Cuasing the breaker to trip. Underground wirng that has gone bad can sometimes take a while to trip the breakers so if there is any underground feeders it may be more difficult to track down a short. If the problem is an overload check both hot wire to see if the load is equal if the load is a lot higher on one leg than the other switching some circuits to the lower side may help. If the total load is just too high you may have to increase your service to a larger size. Hope -this helps

Breaker installed on generator. Keeps tripping under no load after approx. 1 minute of generator running


A tripping circuit breaker is an indication of an overload. You say there is no load on the breaker - how are you making this determination? Are you using an amprobe or some other meter?

A circuit breaker with NO load shouldn't ever trip. Likewise a circuit breaker carrying up to 80% of of the current it is rated for shouldn't trip either. Circuit breakers that carry more than 80% of their load will trip - if the load remains connected long enough. This is called "duty factor" or "service factor" The greater the load is in excess of 80%, the less time that the breaker will carry it before tripping.

An example of a 100 amp breaker with different loads on it (this 100 amp value was chosen for ease of doing the math):

80 amps - never trips
85 amps - trips after 48 hours
90 amps - trips after 16 hours
95 amps - trips after 8 hours
100 amps - trips after 4 hours
105 amps - trips after a few minutes
120 amps - trips after a few seconds
150 amps - trips instantly

This is only an example to show how a certain circuit breaker might trip under a load less than the rating stamped on the body or handle.

A circuit breaker that trips with no load or a load equal to or less than 80% of its rating is most likely defective. You need an amprobe or ammeter for amp readings. If the load is found to be 80% or less, there may be an issue of harmonics that is causing the tripping. You'll need to have special equipment and qualified persons to check harmonic problems. Most harmonic problems occur when the loads are not linear device (transformers). Examples of non-linear devices are "switching" (or solid state) power supplies like those in computers.

It's possibly the circuit breaker rather than the dryer itself. Usually when it trips, it is overloaded or shorted. Overload can be a result of a loose connection or a bad heating element,when you remove the old breaker, see if it has some noticeable burn/corrosion marks where the wire is screwed down, I think replacing the breaker will fix the problem. What else do you have running on hydro while AC is running? Such as coffee maker, microwave, water heater, fridge. That 30 amp breaker is your main breaker I assume, or breaker on pole your plugged in to. Keep in mind your AC will normally draw approx. 15-17+ amps momentarily when compressor kicks in to cool, then drop back to 12-15 amps when running normal. If your AC is drawing too much current, then you would only normally trip 20 amp breaker for AC in your panel. Try switching other appliances to gas operation while running AC, such as water heater, and fridge. Make sure incoming voltage is up to specs as well . (115-120 volts)
If water heater takes 5-8 amps, and fridge takes same when they are calling for power, you'll be close or over the 20amp mark when you consider your on board converter etc. as well. That only leaves approx 10 amps for AC that requires approx 15 amps to run, and up to 20amps when compressor kicks in. If you switch all those other items over to propane, and it still happens, then a current draw test should be done on AC unit to see if perhaps a capacitor is faulty, or possible compressor faulty.

could be a weak breaker,or poor high resistance connection from panel to dryer plug, then have someone check the current draw on the dryer while operating and see if it's within specs of the machine tag, if it's higher than that you may have a defective motor or heating element to case causing a higher than normal current draw

Accidental short/spark - what part did i ruin?


YOU HAVE TOUCHED A HIGH VOLTAGE WIRE TO GROUND AS I READ YOR STATMENT. THAT WILL CAUSE A HIGH VOLTAGE BREAKER IN YOUR DISCONNECT OR MAIN PANEL TO TRIP. YOU CAN FIND CONTACTOR IN OUTDOOR AC MASH IT IN WITH AN INSULATED SCREWDRIVER AND SEE IF COMPRESSOR COMES ON . IF NOT YOU HAVE NO HIGH VOLTAGE TO UNIT FIND AND RESET BREAKER. or YOU CAN GO TO MAIN PANEL AND ALL DISCONNECTS AND CHECK FOR A TRIPPED BREAKER. REMEMBER MOST BREAKERS TRIP TO HALF POSITION, BUT CUTLER HAMMERS TRIP TO OFF POSITION. THE THERMOMSTAT CONTROLLED SWITCH IS CONTROLLED BY LOW VOLTAGE THAT TELLS IT WHAT TO DO, BUT THE WORKING POWER IS USUALLY HIGH VOLTAGE IF ANYTHING HUMS ETC YOU HAVE LOW CONTROIL VOLTAGE BUT IF CONTROLS CLOSE AND NOTHING HAPPENS YOU HAVE LOST A LEG OF POWER OR BOTH LEGS.
