If you have an external drive connected to your computer, check in CMOS or BIOS settings. Your hard drive should always be at the first list of bootable devices.

If you still receive the same boot up problem, try to boot with your Windows installation CD. Go to Recovery Console and in the command prompt, type:

fixboot (then press enter)
fixmbr (then press enter)
bootcfg /rebuild (then press enter)

Lite on DVDRW LDW-451S will not burn or recognise any dvd /cd media? Windows XP says device is working well. Any Ideas

Hi,

Here are some steps that can help you isolate the issue.

To check the functionality of your Drive try to boot outside windows, like booting to Windows Operating system, if this works then your Optical drive is working, if not then you have to replace it.
If it is booting up, try deleting the upper and lower filters, click on start, run, type regedit then ok. click on the [+] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class then click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, then delete the upper and lower filter. then restart your computer. Also you can try different CD as sometimes optical drive are sensitive to the disc.

I hope this will be able to help you.

Thank you for choosing Fixya.

Lite On LSC 24081 CD-RW/DVD-ROM Burner can read cd-rw but he can't read any dvd .i try the firmware Firmware Lite-On LSC-24081MX 3M3K but it said this utilite is only for Lite-On LSC-24081MFR

Hi and welcome to FixYa

There are two parts to a drive like that. I suspect the DVD part has failed.

In rare cases you might get it to work by trying installing new drive firmware. You'd have to see if on the manufacturer website they have new drivers for your drive unit, also you might want to try to boot from bios with a DVD to see if the drives reads it, maybe a windows 7 installation DVD or a ubuntu distribution DVD, or just any DVD to boot from bios, in any case that would tell you if any amount of drivers may help. If it boots to a DVD disk then we can assume it is OK. If you can't get it to boot then the drive is dead for DVD's.

Hope this information was helpful

Sincerely,

aDynamite.

I have installed a SATA SH-S223C on a computer with Windows XP. But now when I try to boot the computer, it freezes on the Windows boot screen until I open the CD tray. Then it will continue on to the...

Do you have any CD in the tray, first would be to remove the disc if present as boot from CD would be first option in BIOS.
Get into the BIOS by pressing the appropriate key some systems it is the DEL key or F2. In bios select Advanced Bios Features.

Select Advanced Bios Features
Hard Disk boot priority,

Select "Bootable add in cards" with keyboard and keep pressing + until it is in the first location.

Set first boot device as Hard Disk and then save and exit BIOS.
F10 is shortcut to do this.

If you need to boot from CD next time just change first boot device to CDROM.

You should re-install the winxp again. For doing it without losing any existing data, do it as per the following instructions: - Boot your computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. When you see the welcom setup screen, chose the "To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER" option. DO not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R" !!!! Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. Setup will copy files to the hard drive will reboot tour computer and will start winxp installation. Good luck !
