Purchased a viking 6440 at a house sale. There was no instruction manual and I can't get the machine to move the fabric forward. It stitches in one spot. Is there a knob adjustment that needs to be made? What is the proper setting for a simple straight stitch?
You can download the actual manual from this page: good luck.

Just going from memory here (I owned a 6370 many years ago - similar model). Make sure you lower the presser foot lever located at the back of the needle assembly. Make sure the feed teeth are raised. Look for a small round knob on the lower right-hand front. It is notched. When you press it in the notch catches on the lip of the hole and the feed dogs lower. Depress it again and let it "lift" up and out then when you turn the handwheel, the teeth will raise. By the way, I have seen manuals for this model selling on eBay very cheaply.
