Question about HP Pavilion dv5-1002us Laptop PC

1 Answer

Hi, I have a HP pavilion dv5000 and the lap top isn't reading the power chord. Don't know if it's the power port or connector. When I have it plunged in the charging light blinks and when i don't have it plugged in, well... it doesn't. When I first had this problem a few weeks ago, is was around a recent thunder storm so i don't know if that's the issue. Every now and then I would have to disconnect the power chord, shut down, then reconnect and if I'm Lucky that will work. Just wiggling it won't do the trick so i dont think it's the insulation near the plug. But who knows... any ideas?

If you have a multi-meter, check the power output on the adapter. If it's putting out the correct voltage (about 18 volts, as I recall), then it's the computer. If the voltage is not right, then replace the adapter.
Hint: don't buy the adapter from the computer company. It'll cost too much. Use a reputable supplier of parts like this.

Sorry, I don't have the original disk ,that's why I need the video controller to install to my hp pavilion dv5000 laptop .with my regards

I assume from your post you mean you need the drivers for your Video Controller. You can download them for free from the HP website, look under device driver Updates. If you have the AMD chip them that is probably and ATI controller. You can download the Controller drivers and Monitoring software from ATI. THe web addresses are :

Battery with HP Pavillion DV5000 won't work. Do I need to replace the battery or is there a battery charger I could use to recharge the battery? Dianne

You can order a power cable online or pick one up at your local computer store. They should run between $80-150. The battery itself is very expensive to purchase but is rechargeable.

HP Pavillion dv5000 Laptop to a Plasma TV using VGA cable

Easy, your going to have to use the function key its like "FN" or sometimes special key and press one of the F keys (F1,F2,F3) Look for a small TV singal or monitor signal on they key. That will transfer the video output from the lap top and enable your tv.

Power chord must must moved continually to show charge

Yes, this is common, if the power cord at the connector is flexed continually then the metal fibres in the cord will break due to metal fatigue.
You can cut off the connector away from the break and fit a new connector on the cord, make sure the the wires are soldered correctly to provide the correct polarity at the connector.
The problem could be at the laptop where the connector plugs into the laptop's power socket. It could have a dry solder joint or the socket is faulty. This requires dismantling to repair.
The HP warranty would cover the normal warranty period and would not extended for worn parts.

An Error in ibm T61p lAP TOP

This is a physical problem with the connection between the motherboard and the USB port. (The system reads an open circuit) What is most likely happening on your laptop is one of the four 'prongs' for the usb port is pushed back (into the center on the laptop) and unhooked the connection to the motherboard. I have a feeling that because several people seem to be having this problem that there might be a manufacture defect with the particular USB port.
The way to fix it: (*note: whenever you work on the inside of a computer wear insulating gloves and remove the battery from the computer before hand.*)
Depending on your laptop there should be an access panel to the core compartments. Open the access panel and check if the usb pin’s are not seated correctly.. (Please note* the very small metal piece should be soldered very well onto the motherboard, the problem will probably be that it was pushed out of the USB connection side and it should still be rigidly connected to the mother board still.) Carefully place the small metal connector back into it's slot so that it looks like the other three. You should really solder this back into place. If you don’t know how take it to a repair shop to make sure it gets done correctly.

My HP Pavilion dv5000;s monitor is blinking!

This is a possible problem with the inverter that powers the back lighting panel or it could be the power adapter connector on the latop.
Wriggle the power connector which plugs into the laptop, if the LCD screen flickers then the power connector is faulty or needs resolderng (repairing).
