On the Xerox 44st a U7-45 is a ITT/IPS DCSYS Comminication Interface Error. One might recheck the copy cartridge to see if it enters in correctly. The latch needs to snap close, not just partilaly closed. The plug at the back of the cartridge and on the main wall needs to be seated in correctly so the cartridge does connect to the plug on the main wall at the back of the machine.
The side door needs to be closed correctly. The machine has a lever at the back corner of the door, it actuates a switch on the inside back.
This also can be linked to a board not working well. Without seeing the machine, there can be many small complicated items that can cause this problem.
Sometimes ESS software needs to be reloaded, and can only be done by the service representative. This is even more so if the messege says "Non-Compatible Cartridge." In this care there is nothing one can do to repair the machine, but to place a service call.
