If the problem happened recently, and Windows is not newly installed, do a System Restore to a date before the problem started.

Open the installed hardware list and remove and reinstall the DVD drive in Device Manager.

This is more complicate:

"Remove/Delete the LowFilter and/or UpperFilter (you might have only one od these) entries from this registry area:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Note:You will have several identical keys like this{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. The one you are looking forwill have DVD/CD Rom Drives as the top entry. Reboot after deleting theLowFilter and/or UpperFilter entries."

Here Source from Microsoft.

If all that does not work, try following the indications on this website: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461.

hi there,
I guess you face aproblem in Windows Vista.
Either you try finding appropriate driver for the device for WinVista(see manufaturer's homepage, if there is none, try the WinXP one),
use exra program freeware program like 'burnatonce' or downgrade your whole system to WIN XP pro(new installation of windows after data back-up and having all teh necessary
drivers for your hardware components)
VISTA is still in trial state, ti is probably a beta version you are using...

or u wait for win7...

Good luck

TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182D....its not function.it cant read any cd or dvd.wht should i do?it seems like something missing, maybe the software/hardware.

It is too late to find out the issue and return SH-S182D drive.
SH-S182D drive has compatibility issue, none of firmware (including the latest) is "perfect" so far.
I couldn't do anything but wait for Samsung to release new firmware to fix their drive.

Same **** with my Samsung SH-S182M. In a nutshell, it burns DVD's then can't read them while my old, cheap DVD reader can. Once in a while it manages to read one making me think I've fixed the problem.

All i can say to you is buy a new one my friend.

If i am helpful to you, please rate me.
Thank you.
