Touchpad Ribbon Cable

There will be two plastic "clip" pieces (if you will), they run about half a cm from the host. You just need to pull them out (again only about half to a quarter of a cm) and insert the ribbon. Once it's inserted push the two small plastic pieces back snugly against the ribbon to fix it in place. FYI it should look like an upside down this: Plastic Clip ----> '_'____'_' <---- Plastic Clip

The touch screen does not respond to touch

C350,351,450,252,352..: remove the panel, try carefully moving and reseating the ribbon cables.. the 4 wire one is your best shot..: by pulling up on the black locking slider with your fingernails, them moving the ribbon a bit , reseat it and while holding it in, push the black lock back in.. The larger ribbon has a very delicate brown clip that can be judiciously un-clipped by pulling it up at the center with (again) your fingernail !!gently!! follow the above steps and while holding the ribbon in, re-clip the brown lock. 10-20% chance this will work.. if not, the touch screen (now modified) need replacing.

I have the replacement keyboard for the gateway NV54 laptop. I need basic instructions on removing the old keyboard and unstalling the new keyboard. Can anybody help because Gateway can't help so far.

All them are pretty basically the same. Pull out power cord and battery... Remove the bezel piece top of the keyboard "the thing the power button sits in". When you remove it there should be 2 screws very tiny holding the keyboard down remove them. Under the keyboard there will be the power ribbon DO NOT JUST PULL IT OUT!! There will be like a brown/white clip that locks the ribbon to the board. The brown may be black or even blue that is the locking piece. Carefully lift the clip up and gently pull the ribbon out. If its stuck you have not unlocked it. Pull the old keyboard out and repeat the steps backwards.

Broken screen, can it be repaired?

The short answer is yes.

It may not be worth it to have it professionally repaired, but if you can do it yourself; it's relatively simple and saves a good amount of money. Replacement screens can be found for as little as $20 dollars on internet auction sites.
Assuming you have a fairly decent mechanical ability:

1) Remove battery and memory card. And touch something metal to remove any static charge.

2) Remove all screws from exterior casing(using properly sized philips screwdriver). Devise some manner of keeping track of them.

3) Using a narrow plastic tool or similar; work your way around the seam between the two halves; gently prying until you can easily remove the rear facing.

- You should now have full access to the screen.

4) Follow the ribbon(coming from the screen) to it's connector(white and brown)
Gently open the ribbon connector. The brown piece should slide towards the ribbon and hinge open.

5) The screen itself, is just clipped and lightly glued in. So just gently pry around the screen with the plastic tool until the adhesive is broken and the screen pops out.

6) Take new screen, removing any packing materials, and insert the ribbon into the connector. Carefully sliding it in all the way. Close the brown retainer and slide to lock in.

7) Position screen inside clips - Double-stick tape can substitute the adhesive.

8) Continue reassembly in reverse of dis-assembly.

Note: If I recall correctly, reassembly is easier if you put the top of the back piece in place first.

Don't lose the screws and be careful not to strip them.
Pieces such as screen and ribbon are delicate - don't use brute force!
Case, if too much force is applied, can bend and/or distort.

Be gentle, go slow, and you should do just fine!

Good luck!

p.s. If you run into trouble along the way; just ask!

Have a Magnovox 42MF531D/37 and are trying to replace the TCon board. However, we are having an issue with the brown "straps" - we don't know how to get them off of the old one.

If you are talking about the flat ribbon connections that go from the Tcon board to the LCD panel, the you just have to lift up the little tab on the connector that is on the Tcon board. It should flip up like a little hinge and once that is unlocked then the flat ribbon cable will pull straight out.

To replace the flat ribbon cable just slide it straight into the connector ensuring the little flip up tabs are up first. Once the ribbons are fully inserted into the connector then flip the little tab back down which locks the ribbon into position.

Good luck and post back if this helps or if you need more assistance.

Need to re-attach keyboard cable

remove all bottom screws out of the laptop, Including beneath the battery. Some are actually labeled "keyboard"
Then pry off keyboard and the above plastic trim between screen and keyboard.
You will now have access to the keyboard ribbon cable connection. The brown clip on bottom of slots needs to be pried out abit, Then slide cable connection into slot very straight and slow. Once it is in as far as it will go, push the brown plastic clip back in place to lock ribbon cable securely into it's place. There is probably 2 cables on your machine.
Then reassemble.

DO make sure the battery is out and machine is unplugged before starting procedure

I bought a new laser for the PS3 it worked for a few minutes then stopped, thought it was faulty replaced with another new one, worked for an hour then stopped altogether again, upgraded the firmware to no...

There are two types of lasers sold online.

One has a white clip where the ribbon cable plugs into and the other has a brown clip.

The white clip lasers are known to have a very high failure rate. If you bought them from Hong Kong then most likely they just both failed.

If you google PS3 lasers brown clip or white clip you'll see what I mean.

I buy mine at they run about $75 each and they are the brown clip lasers.

I run a repair business and that place has best prices aside from Hong Kong which I don't trust.

Take the back panel off by undoing the screws ,then un-clip the keyboard & under it you will see a ribbon cable going to the main board theirs two little clips on both sides where it joins, lift them up with your finger nails then push the ribbon in untill it's straight & all the pins are back in then clip it back down.test it before you put it back together.
other than that clean under the buttons with some contact cleaner & a cotton bud..
GOOD LUCK........

Lgateway laptop won't power on

Your computer works fine. Its just a little plastic tab that has broken off of the power button. Bad design! The power button doesn't sit right about the power switch. The broken tab makes the switch. The button is directly about the LED light. You have to remove the power button panel (Your user manual will instruct you on that) and then you can rig something where the plast tab was or just remove the circuit board from the panel and just power it on with your finger on the circuit board. No risk of shock. Well it hasn't gotten me yet :o) There's only two screws that you have to remove from the back of the computer to remove the panel and keep in mind that the top hinge covers are part of the power button panel so you have to gently loosen those with a little screw driver as well.
