SOURCE: Hooking up external DVD player
If you only have the one Audio/Video or AV input then pop into a TV store and buy a cheap AV switch. Plug your Dish Box into one set of inputs and your DVD into the other. Then run another lead from the switch box to the TVs AV inputs. That way all you do is match the switch to whatever it is you want to watch. If your TV does have two AV inputs just run each unit to a set of inputs and change the TV to AV1 or AV2 depending on which you want to watch and which unit is connected to which AV input. I hope you understood that :-) BMW

I am not sure about Direct TV but dish network does not allow the hookup to go through their box...it must go through the TV only. Speaking with Duraband at 1-800-256-2487 confirms you have to have a Duraband remote and universals won't program to it. Ask for parts dept. and order a new remote. Sorry - not good news for me either!!!

If it is a durabrand dwt1304, you cannot switch the input to EXTERNAL (the front jacks) without a remote. There is a good one at Radio Shack for eight bucks, the 3-in-1 remote. The program code is 0171, and you switch the TV inputs with the A/B button.

This depends on whether you have digital cable box or not. If you have a Digi Cable Box look for the red/white RCA output and connect this via RCA cable to the Red/White Audio input on your surround.
If just Basic Cable look for a red/white audio output on the back of your televison. connect this to the Red/white in on your surround. Could be called tv in or auxillary.
