Correct website. I just purchased from Cosco a SP-U25/160CL Simple Tech drive. I can only find a website for your SP-U25/160 which is pictured as red. The one I bought is grey and has a CL after the 160. Is the red website the same as for the one I furchased? Emma

Re: correct website.

The CD programs are installed on the harddisk. So no CD is needed.

Re: correct website.

Yes, I do believe that the "CL" is a color code.

I have a new pc and the simple tech external hard drive will not show up even though the red and blue lights come on.

click start > right click on computer(or my computer) and click manage click on disk management and see if the 160gb drive is shown, if it is right click on it and click mark partition as active , if windows does not find a new disk then right click on the drive again and click change drive letter and paths. Choose a drive letter and click ok and your drive should now appear in windows. If it isnt showing in disk management then check that the drive is not beeping ,if it is then it is receiving insufficient power from the usb port try removing other usb devices to see if it will function correctly, once you remove the other usb devices you will need to unplug and reinsert the usb lead of the hard drive

My simple drive (simple tech) portable hard drive 250gb will no longer work. The red light appears but not the blue ready light.

I would be very concerned that the drive may be failing, and make copies of anything important.
Is the external drive full? Go to My Computer and right click on your external drive and click on properties and it will tell how much is free and used. 90% is very full. Check all your hard drives while you are at it.

You should go to the website of your hard drive maker and download a diagnostic utility to check the health of your hard drive. It will be on the website under support. This must be run from bootable floppy, bootable usb, or bootable cd.

Almost nothing is supported on Win 2000 because it had shuch a short life span. most new tech made in the last 2-3 years only runs onXP or Vista. Every once in a while some will work back to 98.

p.s. did it say it was compatable with 2000? look on the box
