Re: CD ROM Won't work
First you want to make sure the CD you are using is good. Try a different CD-ROM, a known good one. If a different CD-ROM is readable then the problem is with your CD media and not the CD-ROM Drive. If another known good CD does not work then the problem is with the drive.
To fix this you must purchase a new CD-ROM drive and install it. Newegg.com has great deals. If you only want to read CDs and are not interested in burning then you can get a name brand CD-ROM drive for around $15.00, but if you need to burn as well the CD+-RW will run you about $30.00.
If you are using Windows XP then it is pretty simple to install the new CD-ROM drive.

Hi The fasted and easiest way to eliminate Windows being the cause of a
read problem is to remove the IDE cable from the drive and insert a CD
into the drive once the system is powered on again. You should notice
some change in the LED of the CD-ROM, at least it should blink for a
few seconds. Usually if the LED goes out or turns red it would point
towards a faulty drive - which you have already seem to establish.
One last shot to try before dumping the CD-ROM for good is to update
the Firmware of the ROM drive - altough a long shot I have seen this
work a number of times.
As Insomniac says CD-ROM's are very cheap to purchase these days
Insomniac I am remember when these ROM drives were very expensive
- do you remember when the first Burners came out? As slow as a tractor
and expensive as a Ferrari
this is a READ error known as a CYCLIC REDUNDANCY READ ERROR. If the CD ROM is not able to read from the disc .. it gives u this error This can come due to many reasons 1. OLD CD ROM - not able to read data properly 2. CD with lot of scratches 3. CD not written properly: Data not burn properly on CD at the time of its make.
Solution: Try to insert a new CD in it and then check whether it works or not or get a CD LENS CLEANER DISC which will remove any kind of small debris on the lens on the CD ROM and then it will work. This would surely help
try cleaning your cd rom by the lens cleaner, just run/play this in order to clean the lens. prior from that, try to load some other cd's which you think it play then you need to clean your cd rom. just in case it won't play the cd 's which previously running the cd rom is suspected to be defective and needs to be changed. examone your cd is there some scratches? if there are but with deep scratches then your cd is might also be defective
hard drives dont read cd's
does the door close?
if not close it.
1)left clik my computer
2)double clik the cd rom drive, making sure theres a disk in it.
3)right clik on my computer
look for a yellow exclamation point or red X where the cd-rom is.
high light the cd-rom
restart the computer
windows will detect and re-install the cd-rom drive.
try a cd
if that doesnt work update windows
also buy a cd-rom cleaner at your local electronics store
clean the drive w/th cleaner
try a cd
if updating your driver for the cd rom drive and all ive suggested then its time for a new cdrom drive
