Hi how do I clear all data from my Garmin - Garmin GPS

Most GPS navigation devices from Garmin has a reset function which allows user to access a Maintenance Mode screen with system information, diagnostic details or perform the reset function to restore Garmin Nuvi or other series unit to its original default factory settings.

Depending on which model of Garmin GPS unit you're using, the following routine can reset the Garmin device to original factory loaded settings, or bring up the Maintenance Mode with access to System Information and View Diagnostics screen, where users can see various logs, and of course, clear all user data (reset to factory defaults) or clear Waypoints.

In order to reset Garmin device or enter into maintenance mode, perform one of the following procedures:

Power off Garmin unit. Press on continuously the upper top left corner of screen and then power on the unit by pressing once on the Power button. You should be prompted to clear all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press "Yes" to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.

Hack above works on Garmin Nuvi 660, 680 series.

Turn off Garmin device. Press down on bottom right corner of the touchscreen, and then power on the GPS unit. You should be prompted whether do you really want to erase all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press "Yes" to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.

Trick above works on Garmin nuvi 200, 250, 360 750, 760 series unit. In fact, there is a video demo by user of Garmin Nuvi 360 on how to perform the hidden reset function.

This unit is reset by pressing and holding the power button until it reboots.

You can also reset user data by holding your finger on the lower right corner of the screen whilst powering up the unit at the same time.

Keep your finger pressed until a pop up window appears. Touch YES to clear all data and return to factory settings.

Try maybe a different computer and see if it works. If it doesn't then something is wrong with your item. Clearing the history won't help.

DO NOT DO THE FOLLOWING unless you know why you are doing it. If you press and hold ROUTE when the unit is powered up, you do a master reset. This will clear all data and user variables. Unlike previous Garmin GPS receivers, this will NOT clear the temp compensation curves and non user data.


If the MENU key is pressed and held when the unit is turned ON, an undocumented test screen is activated which incidentally measures battery voltage, temperature and a few other things. Pressing QUIT (several times) from the test screen gives you a set of display test screens.

to soft reset & keep data....
Slide power key to on/off, hold it for 8/10 seconds

Update from Garmin, use the web-updater. keep it updated, delete old junk and POIs.

hard reset.
Hold lower corner of screen, while turning on, keep pressing, when "clear all data appears" click yes,
sould resolve the problem

If no life in it what-so-ever, to get it to work.
Try Press power button and + button at the same time,
Check fuse in adapter,
hold lower right corner of screen, turn on, when offered to clear all data, clear it, start again.
Re-register, re-update,
Should be good.

To soft reset, check underneath for reset hole press in for few seconds,
or, slide power key to left 8/10 seconds.

Hard reset,
press lower right of screen while turning on, keep pressed,
touch yes to clear all data,

If you get it up and running, Update it at Garmin website.

If not, it has a hardware defect on it.

hi, my garmin c320 has a clear view of the sky but it cant track any satalites i don't know what to do. or if there is anything to do. can some please help me. thanks

Resetting Your StreetPilot
If your StreetPilot freezes (stops responding to button presses), try turning it off and then on again. If this does not help, remove the batteries and then reinsert them. Disconnect from external power, if necessary.
Clearing all User Data
If resetting does not fix your problem, you may need to clear all user data from your StreetPilot.
• IMPORTANT: zf you clear all user data, you will delete all saved locations from My Favorites I and all settings in your StreetPilot. Be sure you want to clear all user data before proceeding.
To clear all user data, press and hold down all buttons in the following order: ciJ, Wheel, Power.
Continue holding down all buttons until you see a prompt, “Do you really want to erase all user data?”
Select Yes.
