Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven
This is a built-in unit and is about 2-1/2 years old. A few weeks ago, it stopped working. Now, if we try to cook with it, there is a faint click and the light goes on, but nothing else. The turntable does not turn, and the normal sound made while cooking is absent. The timer and other functions on the control panel all seem to work, though.
The local service shop wants $60 plus time just to look at it, which hardly seems logical since I can replace the unit for less than $200. But knowing the magnatron has a 10-year warranty is frustrating, in case that's the problem.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
You`ll probably find that it`s the interlock switch on the door latch. When the door is closed, the hooks that protrude from the door enter the slots in the oven casing and press down on the latch switches. DO NOT over ride these switches, replace them or get an engineer in to check them. Ian
